Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Dec 10th, 2009

Dosage Express
The Greene Machine... shutout city... a Gordie Howe H/T Deluxe... Gerbe big in debut... Stamkos hurt... a video encapsulation of our feelings about facebook

Daily Diarrhea

Greene Just because we're not convinced about Andy Greene, doesn't mean you can't enjoy his incredible run lately... he had two goals last night and that gives him 2+6=8 in his last eight games.  If you go back even further, he's 4+10=14 in his last 17 games so he's proving that he has staying power.

Antti Miettinen is another guy that we don't have a lot of time for around here as he'll have hot stretches but has never proven to be fantasy-worthy for anything longer than a few weeks... well this might be his few weeks for this season as he's 7+2=9 & plus-7 in his last eight games.

This may still be the year of the injury in the NHL but last night belonged to the shutout... as there were four, ranging from the much needed first of the season for Steve Mason and Niklas Backstrom to the very impressive by Ryan Miller (35 saves against the high flying Caps) and Ty Conklin (42 save blanking of his former team in Detroit).

Not a shutout but an impressive performance nonetheless for the Oilers Jeff Deslauriers as he stopped 32 of 34 to beat the Lightning in Tampa and has rhymed off four wins in a row on the road.  If this continues I don't think the Oilers will be in any rush for Khabibulin to come back.

Gordie Howe Gotta throw up the Gordie Jersey for Zack Stortini as he managed a Gordie Howe Hat-Trick in only six minutes of ice-time last night... actually he had two fights so I guess its a Gordie Howe Hat-Trick Deluxe... well done Huggy-Bear.

Newfies!!!... Ryane Clowe extended his point streak to 10 games last night with two assists and he's been productive with 5+7=12 and 13 PIMs during the streak... knock-on-wood that he can stay healthy this year cause he's on a nice pace for around 60 points, 120 PIMs and 150 shots.

Some impressiveness in LA as Drew Doughty continued his remarkable breakout season with another two points last night and he's on pace for 20+41=61 right now and his partner in crime, Jack Johnson, is getting in on the act as he had two assists and now has five in his last five games.

It was a fine season debut for the Sabres Nate Gerbe as he was 1+1=2 last night in almost 15 minutes of action.  We're big on the miniature Gerbe, who was the AHL rookie of the year last year, as he's been a big producer at every level he's played.

Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):

Stamkos The Bolts lost Ryan Malone (LBI) and Steve Stamkos (UBI) last night as both had to leave the game early... yikes.  We'll be eagerly awaiting updates on their condition today.

Semyon Varlamov is out day-to-day with a groin injury... doesn't sound too serious but goalies and groin injuries go together like toothpaste and orange juice, so you should be a little nervous.

Dan Cleary was knocked out of last night's game after getting crunched by Erik Johnson and we know he has a UBI and Wings GM said to expect the worst but we don't know how long he'll be out.

Sergei Samsonov sat out last night's game with a LBI, not sure on the extent.

Jovanovski Andrew Ebbett suffered a concussion the other night at the arm of Ed Jovanovski and he hasn't been feeling so hot every since, so he could be out a while.  The Jovo-Cop was suspended for two games.

Sean Bergenheim missed last night's game with a rib injury... he's gone back to New York to be re-evaluated.

The oft-injured Brian Pothier left last night's game with an undisclosed injury... who knows what this could be.

Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Cam Ward and Wade Redden.

Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?  We posted a video from a web series called the 'Man in the Box' yesterday and while this one doesn't have anything to do with sports, its totally on point when it comes to facebook abuse and encapsulates our feelings exactly, so we thought we'd share...
