Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Dec 13th, 2009
Dosage Express
Hank Sedin off-the-chain... Kovalev with the FU... Bert & Marty trying to show us up... a Grahame comeback... Boyle injured... Boudreau cries for an Oscar
Daily Diarrhea
Hank Sedin is on a crazy streak lately with six straight multi-point games and 1+16=17 in his last nine games... he now sits tied for 2nd in league scoring.
Ray Whitney's been hot lately since Eric Staal returned as he has 4+3=7 in his last five games. He's been playing well below his usual level this year and hopefully this streak will get him back on track.
A lot of Flyers are struggling but Claude Giroux seems to be enjoying playing for Peter Laviolette as he has three goals in his last three games and two have come on the PP... definitely someone to keep an eye on.
So our whipping boy this season, Alex Kovalev, gave us the giant FU last night by potting the hat-trick... well played Kovy, well played. Now a hat-trick is a hat-trick but the first was a tap-in, the second bounced in off a defender and the third was an empty netter, so lets not get out of hand here. These were his first goals in 17 games and his four sogs was a season high... so its still an absolutely craptastic season for Kovy.
Another guy we hate is trying to show us up lately as Todd Bertuzzi has back-to-back two goal games (and game winners). Now we will give it to Bert that he's shooting the puck a lot more this year (on pace for 230) but pick this guy up at your own risk as he's bound to leave you disappointed and due to get injured any day now.
And yet another one... we've been all over Marty Havlat this year for his shit-show of a season but he's turning it on lately with three points last night and 2+5=7 in his last five games. He's probably been dropped in a lot of leagues so grab him if you choose, but just be aware that we don't endorse that move.
Another two goals for Andrei Kostitsyn last night and he's been good lately with 5+6=11 & a plus-5 in his last 10 games... we're not big fans but give him a look for next week as the Habs play four times.
Matt Stajan was 2+1=3 last night and he's been hot over the short term with 3+4=7 in his last five and also over the long-term with 8+9=17 in his last 16 games. You probably can't get your hands on Kessel but you can piggyback on some his production by grabbing the Ragin Stajan.
A third straight game with a goal last night for Big Sexy Dan Sexton... we're still not sure what to make of this guy but if you're the gambling type then go ahead and take the risk.
This is just what the struggling Flyers need... John Grahame, bitches! He's been signed to an AHL tryout contract after starting the year playing in a men's league and following a partial season playing in the KHL. The Flyers are probably hoping he'll be a cheap backup for Brian Boucher while Emery's out... good luck with that. [more]
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Dan Boyle left last night's game with an undisclosed injury and there's been no update on his status yet. San Jose only plays one game this coming week so you'd probably want to sit Boyle anyway.
Milan Hejduk's knee injury that kept him out of three games a few weeks back has re-surfaced and he's not planning on playing tonight but is listed as day-to-day.
MA Bergeron left last night's game after taking a puck in the chops, no word on the extent.
Owen Nolan missed last night's game with a leg injury, he's listed as day-to-day... amazingly this is the first game he's missed all year but he's bound to hurt himself re-habbing, so stay tuned.
After a solid two games to kick off his season, Nate Gerbe is now out with a groin injury... we're not sure how serious it is.
Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Freddie Modin, Alexandre Picard and Chris Kunitz.
Daily Distraction
What's distracting us today? Caught this commercial the other night while watching the Caps game, the people in DC have probably seen this for a while but its new to us and worth sharing since Coach Boudreau puts in an Oscar-worthy performance...
