Fantasy Hockey Scouts: Daily Dosage - Dec 6th, 2009
Dosage Express
Kipper's unreal save & stats... not sold on Cole... try Simmonds, Weiss & Downie next week... Crosby rests... Miller is too classy
Daily Diarrhea
Miikka Kiprusoff held the vaunted Sharks offense to one goal on 36 shots and made this unbelievable save to pull out the 2-1 victory last night. Kipper's been crazy-awesome lately with numbers like 5-1-1, 1.13 & .962 in his last seven games.
Erik Cole posted the hat-trick yesterday and despite that we're going to go ahead and recommend that you continue to pass on this guy as its not a good sign this far into the season when you can double your entire season output of goals in one game... if he puts together a little streak then we'll let you know.
Crazy night for the Caps as they dropped eight goals (surely in honour of their suspended comrade) on the Flyers. Nicklas Backstrom was 1+4=5 and Mike Green was 2+2=4 to lead the way... Green's been on fire lately with 3+14=17 in his last 12 games. Eric Fehr extended his point streak to six games and is 4+5=9 in those six, while seeing a season high 17:20 of ice last night.
Its been a bit of bounceback year for Lubomir Visnovsky as thanks to 3+6=9 & a plus-7 in his last nine games, he's on pace for 20 goals and close to 60 points this year.
We mentioned Wayne Simmonds the other day and he extended his scoring streak last night, its now up to six games and he's 4+4=8 with a plus-8 during the run.
Steve Weiss extended his point streak to six games and he's 6+3=9 in the streak... give him a look if you need help at center next week as the Panthers are in action four times.
Paul Kariya is off to a brutal start to the year and even went 15 games without a goal (and only two assists) but he's come around lately with 4+1=5 in his last five and his 26 shots in those games are encouraging. He's worth a look as he's got point-a-game ability over the long-term.
Tyler Myers has six assists and a plus-4 in his last five games but he's just not doing enough in the other categories for us to get too excited as he only has 10 PIMs and 29 sog through his first 26 games this year.
Give Steve Downie a look in deeper leagues as he has 3+4=7 with 5 PPP and 10 PIMs in his last 10 games. If he can give you enough points then he's worth having in your lineup for the occasional PIM explosion.
Andrew Brunette is a sneaky-good player right now with 3+10=13 & a plus-8 in his last nine games and while this scout likes the fact that he's an ironman and is productive on the PP, he doesn't do enough, for my liking, in the peripheral categories to start on my teams.
Ray Emery took the brunt of the Caps assault last night by giving up five goals on 17 shots before he was mercifully removed. Ray hasn't been so hot lately, here's his numbers over his last five games... 0-4, 5.36 gaa & .806 sv%.
As anticipated, the Caps re-claimed Chris Bourque off waivers from the Penguins and sent him to Hershey.
Injury Updates (see our Injury Updates page for a consolidated list of injuries):
Sidney Crosby sat out last night's game due to a nagging groin injury, it sounded like more of a precaution and he's listed as day-to-day. As for when he returns, we'd bet he's not out too much longer. [more]
Brent Burns had a setback in his recovery from his latest concussion and is not skating or even working out right now...yikes... so he could be out for a long while.
Returning to action from the injured list last night was: Jonathan Ericsson, Tomas Vokoun, Johnny Oduya, Ed Jovanovski, Vesa Toskala and Tom Poti.
Daily Distraction
What's distracting us today? Yeah, I know this is a week old, but I'm hungover today, so deal wid it... Ryan Miller fires the puck through a hole in the glass in Toronto and hits a paparazzi in the face and then pretends to be all concerned and even gives him his stick after the game is over... that Ryan Miller is so classy, it makes me wanna puke...
