Daily Diarrhea

HEADS UP... alright fantasy freaks, the 2010/11 Fantasy Scouting Report hit the shelves Aug 31st (was updated Sept 9th & another update will be released in the next day or two), so get yourself a copy & win your goddam pool (like these glorious dudes)

Russell CBJs dman Kris Russell suffered a sprained knee in training camp and he'll be sidelined for the the next 2-4 weeks, so he's in doubt for the start of the regular season.  He's a breakout candidate this year as the Jackets need a little jump on their blueline but it looks like the take-off could be delayed... we think he'll fall short of 30 points this year.

An update on the Filip Kuba news from yesterday... the Sens dman has a broken ankle and is out for 5-6 weeks, so he'll likely miss about the first 10 games of the regular season and has never really been known as an ironman so expecting much more than 60 games this year is probably a pipedream.

New Thrashers coach Craig Ramsay is doing a little position shifting in the ATL as he's moving Bryan Little back to his natural center position and trying out Rich Peverley on the wing.  Nothing drastic here as both guys were likely to play on the 2nd line so this just means that they exchange positions or maybe Pev moves up to the top line... either way there's really no plum assignment in Atlanta right now as there's not a ton of talent to play with so this doesn't really change either player's value (although look for Peverley to get wing eligibility, which is nice). Not much news so we'll mention a few notes we've seen about guys who have impressed at training camp so far:

Frolov Alexander Frolov had a hat-trick in a Rangers scrimmage the other day... as expected, he's started camp playing with Gaborik but the unexpected was that Derek Stepan was the man in the middle.  Stepan's a good looking prospect (#49 in our Fantasy Prospect Rankings) but we'd be very surprised if he cracks the roster out of training camp... he could probably use some seasoning in the AHL.  Frolov, btw, we like to bounce back to the 30 goal & 60 point level as he's been a productive player up until last year's debacle (which still resulted in 51 points).

Devils prospect Jacob Josefson has been impressive at camp so far, we're told.  He could have a chance to stick with the club, especially if a few veterans are purged to get the team under the salary cap.  If he doesn't make the team then he's likely headed back to Sweden for another year.

Caps center Mathieu Perreault was a "standout performer" in a scrimmage yesterday but the coach has also had a lot of nice things to say about Marcus Johansson as well... this is one of the more intriguing battles of the pre-season.  It sounds like Tomas Fleischmann will start the year as the #2C but these two young guys are likely battling for a spot on the team and could move up the lineup if they impress. Daily Distraction

What's distracting us today?

- Saw the story below on the always awesome Great Hockey Legends.  Apparently some guy in Windsor, N.S. found what may or may not be an old hockey puck and that puck may or may not prove Windsor is the birthplace of hockey. Either way, it's a cool little story. We can't embed the video so go pay a visit to CTV's site to check it out.
