Cory Schneider...what's going on here?
So he's now started the majority of the last ten games? The team is tearing it up and to top it off, he's still undefeated! Mr. Luongo is getting more than his fair share of rest.
My question here is this: For the remainder of the season, how many starts does Cory get? Worth a speculative pick up? An interesting development nonetheless.
What goalies would you put him on par with at this point?

I think this is just a little downtime for Luongo, I think he’s just soaking up the rest getting ready for the 2nd half. I wouldn’t count on more than 10 starts from Schneider the rest of the way… if he gets more than that I’d be pretty surprised. I don’t think he’s worth a pick-up unless its a keeper league and you can hold him through the summer to see if he gets traded and ends up as a #1 somewhere.
Long-term I love the upside, coming into this year, we had him as the 4th best fantasy goalie prospect (with less than 50 games) behind only Bernier, Markstrom & Varlamov… and he’s done nothing but help his status this year. If you can take a long-term approach then grab him as I think he’ll be a good one.

agree that he won’t get a ton of starts and that this was just a nice rest for Luongo — why not when Schneider is UNdefeated on the season (8-0-2)!
who are you top goalie prospects now?
Bernier and Markstrom seem to have fallen from grace and Varlamov has proven to extremely injury-prone.
does that mean that Schneider is now #1?
(it does for me)
If I’m looking a few years out then I leave them as is…. yes Markstrom & Bernier have struggled this year but I’m not willing to change my long-term thinking based on a bad half-season.

my list
w/ the following considerations:
1. 50 games or less, so qualify as rookies/prospects in your keeper leagues
2. Gs I want to own for NEXT year, so the liklihood they get to play is weighted more heavily > someone w/ strong long-term potential (e.g., Jhonas Enroth) who is stuck behind a stud (e.g., Ryan Miller)
1. Corey Crawford – the net appears to be his in Chicago and he’s acquitting himself very well
2. Cory Schneider – behind Lou though VERY useful when he starts and could get moved as soon as summer
3. Robin Lehner – more of a longer-term prospect, but with the OTT net a mess, he could get a shot soon. high ceiling.
4. Sergei Bobrovsky – stumbling as of late, but great first 1/2 of the season. Boucher and Leighton are not the answer.
5. Jonathan Bernier – shaky this season, but he’s got the skills.
Move Markstrom up some if/when Vokoun is dealt away
Any thoughts/comments appreciated.
Given the criteria you laid out (so heavily weighted towards playing next year) I’d probably go:
1. Varlamov (will be over 50 games at end of you so you probably excluded him)
2. Neuvirth (same as Varlamov)
3. Crawford (will top 50 as well if his pace continues)
4. Bernier
5. Schneider
6. Markstrom
7. Bobrovsky – who knows what the Flyers will do with their goalies
Two more to keep it mind… Bachman from Dallas and Tokarski from TB.

Both WAS Goalies?
How can both Varlamov and Neuvirth be at the top of your list when the best the two could hope for while staying in WAS would be a time share?
Do you foresee one of Varlamov or Neuvirth getting traded somewhere or do you think a time share in WAS is better than being the starter in CHI?
Based on the criteria above, so mostly looking for a young goalie for next year… I’d rather have a 50% shot at having the Caps starter than any other young goalie. Sure there’s downside risk but the payoff could be huge (as Varlamov is showing right now) and there’s always a chance that one of them gets moved.
