Friday's Injury Updates - Crosby, Brodeur, Hemsky...
Lots to run through here...
YESSSS!... Sidney Crosby is ready!.... for contact in practice! Alright, it's not really that exciting but it is progress and the next step will be for them to target a return date. I'm not even going there since it will surely be an overblown speculation-fest over the next few weeks.
Martin Brodeur left last night's game due to a shoulder injury but the team said after the game that it wasn't serious... let's hope they're right.
Uh-oh... Ales Hemsky left last night's game due to a shoulder injury. His shoulders are being held together with plasticine at this point so this is not a good sign.
Tim Connolly (UBI) now says that his injury is more serious than they let on and it may be longer than a day-to-day thing. I believe we said when he first went down that no injury with this guy is minor so expect the worst... bingo.
Even more fragile than Connolly is Rick DiPietro and he took a shot off the mask in practice on Wednesday and while they don't think it is a concussion, it very well could be.
Martin Erat is on the IR due to his UBI but he could come off at any time and Patric Hornqvist is day-to-day with a LBI.
Linus Omark is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.
Michal Neuvirth didn't dress for last night's game as he's day-to-day with a LBI but he should be back in the next game or two.
Carlo Colaiacovo is on the IR and it sounds like he probably has a concussion so who knows how long he'll be out for... he was an injury risk even before this so I'd bail now.
Ryan Kesler (hip) is reportedly getting close but is probably still at least a week away.
Evgeni Malkin returned after sitting out two games and put up 2A last night.
Lars Eller & Dustin Penner both made their season debuts last night.

Well that was quick
“ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that forward Andy McDonald will return to St. Louis after suffering a head injury at the end of the second period last night in Dallas. McDonald will be further evaluated by Dr. Rick Wright.”
I had just swapped out Steen for him as the top line with McDonald seemed to be clicking.
I knew I was taking a chance, but seriously, only two periods before he gets hurt?
Uh-oh… that’s not good. He’s had at least four documented concussions and one last year kept him our for 24 games.

Luckily (I think)
Steen was still on the WW, and I would guess he gets bumped up to the second or first line now.
What about Peter Mueller?

I thought he was just a healthy scratch, that they were just resting him but apparently he’s not feeling well:

some pretty big news here.
Crosby is ready for action, nice to see. Martin is already hurt this isnt surising he is alreadu 39 and i think this could be his last season. I mean what does the guy got left to prove.

What is Jordan Staal’s value once Sid returns to action? I assume his value takes a hit. I have Ryan Kesler coming back from injury, would it be better to drop Staal in anticipation of Sid’s return or Troy Brouwer. (my league counts hits and blocks and FOW as well)

Staal should definitely be back on the third line when Sid returns. His upside is about 50 points in my eyes… but he does help out in FOW.
I don’t like Brouwer much… but he does help out in hits.
It’s kind of a wash to me. I’d probably hang onto Staal because who knows how long Crosby will be and Brouwer seems like an easier guy to replace.

Jordan Staal
Yeah, it is looking more and more like he’ll be back to 3C.
If your league counts FOWs though that gives him a leg up on Brouwer.
On the plus side, the Islanders have a job opening in their front office for you!
