Sunday's Daily Dosage - Erixon, Hodgson, M.Read...
Really surprised by this one... Tim Erixon was cut by the Rangers. Not only cause I assumed that due to his SEL experience that he was ready for the NHL but more by the fact that he must have really sucked if the Rangers kept Brendan Bell and Stu Bickel on the roster over him. Likely they're just sending Erixon a message and he'll be back up after some time in the AHL but there is a slight risk here that he'd rather play the year in Sweden so we'll see if he reports.
Vancouver dressed pretty much all their regulars and Cody Hodgson saw time on L2 and the #2 PP unit while potting two goals (including ENG). So he's finally made the team and should get a regular shift at least until Kesler returns.
Oh baby... Preds prospect Craig Smith with the OT winner last night and with a few injuries up front it looks like he's made the team. The kid has been very impressive over the past six months so let's hope he can keep it going.
Ryan Murphy is still in camp with Carolina, he didn't really have a productive preseason with just 1A in four games but he'll either be one of the last cuts or will get a nine game run to start the year.
A guy we're really pulling for, Matt Read of the Flyers, played nearly 22 minutes last night and added another assist to his preseason total of 2+5=7 in six games. He should make the team out of camp and could really surprise a lot of people if he can keep chipping in a few points.
Mike Smith stopped 28 of 29 for the Coyotes last night and has a pretty solid 2.01 gaa & .929 sv% through three preseason appearances.
Darren Helm got a chance to see some quality ice-time and he took advantage with 1+2=3 and 9 shots last night. But things could be a little different when the Wings have their top 6 forwards in the lineup.
Sidney Crosby is officially out for the season opener... thanks for that big announcement.
Matthew Lombardi returned after missing the past year due to a concussion and he played 17 minutes last night for the Leafs. We'll see how he's feeling this morning before speculating if he'll be in the opening night lineup.
Mikhail Grabovski left last night's game after taking a puck off the boot... he'll be re-evaluated today.
Chris Campoli left last night's game after taking a nasty hit to the head from Ryan Malone.
Bruins dman Steven Kampfer is out 2-4 weeks with a sprained knee.
Jamie Benn has only seen action in one preseason game due to a groin injury but the team thinks he'll be ready to go once the season starts.
Clarke MacArthur has been suspended for the first two regular season games for an elbow to the chops of Abdelkader.... let's give Afrogator two for the dive while we're at it.
Ben Bishop has been sent down to the AHL so Brian Elliott is your new backup goalie in St.Louis.
Lots of notable cuts from the past 24 hours: Mark Mancari (VAN), Maxim Goncharov (PHX), Viktor Tikhonov (PHX), Andy Miele (PHX), Casey Wellman (MIN), Nate Prosser (MIN), Thomas Hickey (LA), John Moore (CBJ), Tomas Kubalik (CBJ), Robin Lehner (OTT) and Braden Holtby (WSH).

Erixon
that one was the probably the biggest surprise to me, too.
what does this say about how the Rangers feel about the rest of their D corps?
seriously, with no Staal around their top 4 is Girardi, McDonagh, Sauer & Eminger???… very yikes.

Del Zotto is more part of their top 4 while Staal is out, not Emminger. He’s got the most offensive talent of any of their d-men.

I didn’t think Torts trusted him?

He didn’t, but it’s a new season. The kid was dynamite two seasons ago. Could it really have been a fluke?

Having MDZ in your top 4 can’t be a good thing either.
Shocked that Erixon didn’t make it. Gotta think he won’t be down long. About the only thing the Rangers need is some quality d-men.

been hearing some + whispers about Staal—perhaps he’ll be okay after all.
that would be consistent w/ sending Erixon down.
