Friday's Daily Dosage - Seguin, B.Schenn, B.Connolly...
As expected, the blazing hot Phil Kessel was invisible last night in Boston with just one shot in 20 minutes of ice-time. And just to rub it in (mostly to Burke) Tyler Seguin looked great with 1+2=3 and is off to a heavy all around start with 2+6=8, plus-5 & 22 shots in his first seven games. I didn't think the kid was ready for a big breakout yet but I have been wrong before.
James Neal doesn't need Malkin or Crosby as his center, he's doing just fine with Richard Park... he potted another goal last night and now has six goals in his last six games.
Brayden Schenn was a minus-3 in 11 mins in his Flyers debut last night. He played #3C with Voracek & Hartnell while Sean Couturier dropped down to the 4th line but did score a late goal. Matt Read jumped up to the 2nd line and led the forwards in ice-time with 21:32 playing in all situations. It's going to be real interesting to watch how everything plays out with the Flyers fine rookies this year.
Another nice effort from Alexander Burmistrov with an assist in 20 minutes of ice-time... he has 1+3=4 during a three game point streak.
5th straight win for Tomas Vokoun last night as he stopped 40 of 42 Flyers shots to keep his record perfect on the season.
Just one assist on the season for Brett Connolly but he's been getting some quality shifts as he lined up with Vinny & St.Louis last night and joined the big boys on the top PP unit. Not sure if this is where Boucher likes him long-term or if this is just a trial before they send him back to Jr.
I went out and grabbed Mark Giordano in a couple of leagues this year, love his all-around contributions and durability. He had a PPG with seven shots and three hits in 24:32 of TOI last night... all in a days work for the Flames best dman.
Marian Gaborik with a goal on eight shots last night and he has scores in four of his first five games. Brad Richards with a single point in each of his five games so far.
Derek Stepan had his first point of the season last night but I'd give him a shot if he's on your waiver wire. Odds are it won't last but he's joined Richards & Gaborik on the top line the past few games and has been seeing close to 20 minutes a night.
Busy night for Daniel Sedin with 1+2=3, 2 PPPs, plus-1, 2 PIMs & 5 shots. He's had four multi-point efforts in seven games this year.
Sami Salo with a PPA & six shots last night and he's been looking good so far this year but with him you know what is right around the corner.... don't cha?
Mathieu Perreault with 1+1=2 last night but the kid only played 12 minutes and was strictly on the 4th line... don't get your hopes up.
Thomas Vanek with two more goals last night and that gives him 6+4=10 in six games to start the season.
Jonathan Quick pulled off the second of back-to-back shutouts last night with a 28 save blanking of the Coyotes. He is off to a great start with 4-0-1 record and 0.97 & .967 averages, so please enjoy and while I wouldn't expect him to bomb recall that his numbers tend to tail off a little as the season winds down.
Nazem Kadri was called up by the Leafs yesterday and while it didn't really show up on the scoresheet, he looked pretty good last night with 1A in 13 mins.
Your notable healthy scratches from last night were Blake Comeau & Cal O`Reilly.
Unreal save from Semyon Varlamov last night... this is what I'm talking about when I say the kid has shedloads of talent... but I also thought he was hurt and done for the year when he didn't get up right away. It's all part of the deal with being a fan of this guy.

Seguin
Love this kid
Prefer him over any of the RWs on Boston’s roster — yes, Nathan Horton, I’m looking at you
I knew a breakout was coming but like Cam I wasn’t sure it would happen this year. Pleasantly surprised at his start.

So, what do you think Varlamov would fetch in a trade?
I’m thinking he’s a perfect sell high candidate. I’m trying to think of another goalie but I’d imagine asking for a Ward or Price is probably a bit much.
I think Varlamov’s reputation overrides his hot start so he might not be the perfect sell high candidate. Probably the best thing to do is enjoy this run while it lasts & hope it lasts all season.

James Neal is doing pretty crazy.
Scoring goals racking up the points, imagine if this guy was on a line with Crosby.
