Trade Analysis - Canucks acquire David Booth in 4-player Deal
Today, the Vancouver Canucks acquired David Booth, LW, Steve Reinprecht, C and a 3rd round draft pick in 2013 from the Florida Panthers in exchange for veterans Marco Sturm, LW and Mikael Samuelsson, RW.
Florida dumped significant salary. I didn't think Tallon cared about such things, but apparently everyone has their limits. Especially important is that Booth has 3 more years after this one on his deal at $4.25M/year. He was a -31 last year and is underperforming again this year.Vancouver needed a 2LW to play on Kesler's line. Sturm was not the answer, and they are hoping Booth is. They will send Reinprecht down to the A where his $2.175M salary will not count against their cap.
Impact on the Canucks:
Booth +++
Salo +
Kesler +
Hodgson o/+
Higgins -
Impact on the Panthers:
Upshall +
Sturm o
Samuelsson -
Kulikov -

booth has alot of goal scoring potential, i think he would do great with the sedins. But on the second line with Kesler he will do well also. These to teams seem to like to do trades with each other, Luongo, Ballard, Higgins andd X cats. I think if you take out the salary cap thing Vancouver won this hands down, but if booth dosent get around 50 points and 23+ goals in everyone of his 3 years then they are paying him an awful lot.
I like this deal a lot for Booth’s value.
Booth shoots a ton but was/is on the waiver wire in a lot of leagues. This deal increases his upside dramatically. His minus should disappear and if he can find some chemistry with Kesler and Higgins (the Nucks still need another 2nd line winger) he could get back up to that 30 goal potential he flashed in Florida.
I went out to add him in a few leagues but unfortunately he was already gone.

when do you think Raymond will return?
and is the expectation that he will play on a line with Booth and Kesler?
I would assume so… the other option is Chris Higgins (unless they want to move Hodgson over to the wing).
I think I heard he’ll be back sometime in Nov-Dec but it didn’t sound like a 100% thing.

Probably because I'm a Canucks
But I see Booth scoring 30+ goals this year and at least 55 points. Sure he had the worst +/- in Florida but he’s now on a line with Kesler, the winner of the Selke, and Chris Higgins. He had 23 goals on the worst team last year and played all 82 games despite 2 prior concussions.
There’s only room to score more goals this year on a stacked offensive, all-American second line that have played together before (Higgins with Booth in Florida, and Kesler with Booth in youth teams)

Glad somebody else is thinking like me. I seem to be in minority according to the votes.

He’s going to return to scoring the points he used to with Horton, except now Kesler is going to be passing to him and it’s going to be a thrill to watch him explode.

I’ve always liked Booth so I hope so (even though I own him in zero leagues)
