Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Training Camp Heroes

If only I had a nickel for every time I've heard, "You're a tool, you missed Kostka in the Breakout Bible"

Alright, so while we've been talking for the last few weeks about this guy getting cut and how this other guy won't make it, we're getting down to the nitty-gritty and now we turn the spotlight on those that might actually not get cut.

Some of these guys could still be on the chopping block but it's still worth mentioning them for surviving this long and it certainly can't hurt their status in the organization.  Others could use this as a springboard for a dream rookie season like Cam Fowler, Derek Stepan & Jeff Skinner did last year... so stay tuned.

Players that are still in jeopardy of getting cut are in italics.

Nice list Cam.

Some interesting names on there. I’m surprised that Couturier is on there. I grabbed him in a league over Brett Connolly and was kinda kicking myself (since I think Connolly has a much better chance to make an impact this season) so he’s giving me some hope.

Your boy Ryan Murphy is surprising me as well.

Thanks, Cam. This is awesome.
Do you still think that Rundblad can outperform Larsson this year?
Seems like Larsson has a clear shot to the #1 PP duties on a stacked NJ team.
Whereas Rundblad is behind Karlsson and Gonchar on not-so-stacked Ott team.

Horak looked good out there – makes the Erixon blunder a little easier to take. Wouldn’t mind seeing him play a few regular season games before being sent down to the A for another year to work on his game.

Kotska was cut… see, told you all.

Ekholm makes Preds

Good looking prospect, virtually invisible to most fantasy GMs. Had great numbers in the SEL last year & beat out Ryan Ellis for a spot on the roster

what’s his O like?

by Diomedes7 on Oct 4, 2011 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Last year could be an outlier but he was 4th in SEL scoring by a dman (10+23=33 in 55 games), was named SEL ROY.

NHLe is 38 pts this year but I think he won’t see a lot of PP time playing behind Weber, Suter & Blum so I’m only expecting around 20 pts.

Brett Connolly in, Orlov & Eakin Out

all the rosters should be finalized today.

any thoughts on whether Orlov gets called up this year. Barring a slew of injuries, is he at least a full year away?

what do you make of Brandon Saad? will he get sent down as soon as Bolly is back?

by Diomedes7 on Oct 5, 2011 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions

If Orlov is this close then I imagine he’ll be up again at some point… maybe just for a few games here and there.

Very skeptical that the Hawks would keep Saad around all season.

nice list.

only thing i disagree with is zibinijad i do think he is that good, i see him sticking this year and getting some points. I like his type of plays and playing in sweden against men for thelast two years is only going to help him.

by Jt Malley on Oct 5, 2011 2:46 PM EDT reply actions

26 games in the SEL last year and 5+4=9 is respectable but the rest of his production in the Swedish Jr. leagues and at international events doesn’t impress me.

Couturier is only there for nine, I assume?

Justin Faulk makes Canes

seems like a crowded blueline: Kaberle, Pitkanen, McBain, but sounds like they love the kid.

Damn… I really though he could surprise a few people this year.

Last few questions answered...

Strome sticks for the time being… Bulmer & Scandella on Minny roster and Petrell is still with the Oilers.

Breakout list

Cam, can you make the breakout list here a top ten ranking? In my deep pool, the top five listed are all long gone. Thanks!
