Big night for Alexander Edler with 2+1=3, plus-3 & six shots. He has 2+5=7 & 21 shots over his last five games and I've been telling anyone that will listen that it's going to be a huge season for the underrated dman. He's averaged 1.9 spg over his career coming into this season and so far this year he's averaging 3.0 /gm.
Jason Spezza with two more goals and he has 6+5=11 during a six game point streak. Colin Greening is hitching a ride on the Spezz train as he has 1+4=5 over his last five games while playing a season high 22:08 yesterday.
Mike Smith stopped 37 of 39 and he's actually been very solid this year... minus an opening night stinker he's 4-1-2, 2.08 & .928 in seven games since... so I guess I should stop slagging him (for now).
I typically advise you to be patient and give players a while before giving up on them but it's been 10 games so I'd bail on Bryan Little. He plays a ton on the top line for the Jets but isn't showing much of anything with just 3A & 15 shots in 10 games so far.
Jay texted me last night to let me know how much of a beast Scott Hartnell is, so I guess I should mention him... last night he had 1+2=3, plus-3 with two PIMs and four shots. He now has 4+5=9, plus-5 with 11 shots over his last four games... not bad Jay. I'd say he's enjoying playing with Jagr (5+2=7 in his last four games) & Giroux (four points last night).
Heard all this talk in the offseason about Troy Brouwer with the Caps and Troy Brouwer on the top line with Ovechkin,etc.... well Troy Brouwer sucks by the way. He had lots of chances with good players in Chicago and dude couldn't put together a two piece puzzle. He had an assist & five shots last night but has just 1+3=4 & 16 shots in his first nine games this season.
Marcus Johansson was a scratch on opening night but has 5+1=6 in eight games since as he fills the #2C role for the Caps.
A pair of assists last night for Martin Hanzal and he has 3+3=6 over his last four games. His buddy Radim Vrbata has 2+3=5 over his last two games so he's on one of his patented runs before ending up with sub 50 points.
Smells like desperation in Columbus as they gave Allen York his first NHL start and promoted Derek MacKenzie to #1C. York held up fairly well giving up four goals on 37 shots and MacKenzie scored but it wasn't enough as they lost again.
Sheldon Souray has his production in Monster-mode as he had 1+1=2, plus-2 with two PIMs & four shots last night. He's on pace for 22+37=59, 200+ PIMs & 200+ shots... that is until he gets hurt, of course.
Giant YIKES here... Eric Staal was a minus-4 last night and he's the leader in the clubhouse at minus-13. Just two points in his last nine games as well.
Patric Hornqvist's ice-time has been low this year as he's been playing hurt (LBI) but he saw a season high 20:31 last night and scored on seven shots... that's goals in B2B games for him.
Dwayne Roloson bounced back with a 28 save shutout last night... he may be old but he's not dead yet.
So Brett Connolly hit the magical 10 game mark last game and the Lightning announced that he was staying around and then in game #11 last night he played a season low 10:34. I am laying off this kid, don't think he's ready to produce in the NHL yet.
It hasn't been pretty but Jonas Gustavsson has won three of his last four after stopping 34 of 37 for the win last night. He's expected to get the start again tonight.
Tim Connolly only played 12 minutes last night but he looked good between Kessel & Lupul setting up a number of chances and he had his first two points as a Leaf.
Some people talked about bailing on Mikhail Grabovski after a slow start... hopefully you did not as he has 3+2=5 with 18 shots over his last five games.
The last nine games for Ville Leino: 0+1=1, minus-5 & four shots... yikes. He played 9:35 last night, the press box is next.
Five straight wins for Craig Anderson after he gave up four on 28 shots but squeaked it out in the shootout.
So Brett MacLean was re-claimed by PHX off waivers and sent to the AHL... not a happy moment for his long-term prospects.
