The biggest and brightest from the past week in Fantasy Land, as voted by FHS writers.
Three Stars of the Week:
3rd Star, from the Philadelphia Flyers, numero 44, Kimmo Timonen... 0+7=7 and a +8. Great week for a defensemen who was probably dropped in many leagues last week. Timo should continue to make hay while Chris Pronger is out. FHS Votes: 1 second, 3 thirds.
2nd Star, from the Montreal Canadiens, numero 31, Carey Price... 3GP, 3 Wins, 1.33 GAA, .950 SV%. Anxious Price owners are resting a little easier after this performance, although you had to know it was only a matter of time before he turned it around. Price also served up the best quote of the week, "I just Bill Bucknered it." FHS Votes: 2 seconds, 2 thirds.
1st Star, from the Philadelphia Flyers, numero 19, Scott Hartnell... in my last Random Notes column, I lamented The Orange One's lack of quality ice time during the first couple of weeks of the season. Queue the Jagr-Giroux-Hartnell express. In four games last week, Hartnell netted 4+5=9, with a +5 and 4 PIM for good measure. He also saw some PP time and averaged 17+ minutes TOI, after failing to crack the13 minute mark in his first six outings. Great news all around for Hartnell owners. FHS Votes: 5 firsts.
Honorable mention: Marc-Andre Fleury (2GP, 2 Wins, 0.96 GAA, .962 SV%, 1 Shutout), Alexander Edler (3GP, 2+2=4, +2, 1 PPG,16 SOG), Claude Giroux (4GP, 2+5=7, +4), Jaromir Jagr (4GP, 5+2=7, +4, 17 SOG).
Rookie Star of the Week: Craig Smith, NSH - 3 points in 3 games. Still on the #1 line and #1 PP unit. He's on a 60+ point pace.
HM: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (4 games, 4 points), Roman Horak (2+2=4 in 3 games)
Breakout Star of the Week: Jordan Eberle, EDM, going 3+2=5 in four games. Man, the Oilers are fun to watch right now.
HM: Jaromir Jagr and Scott Hartnell (as mentioned above), Max Pacioretty (4 GP, 2+2=4).
Breakdown of the Week: There were a handful of (un)worthy nominations this week: Ryan Whitney, EDM (Really? Made of glass.), Eric Staal, CAR (Only 1A and -3 for the week. He now sits at-13 for the year), Zach Parise, NJD (1G, 0A and -3), Ilya Kovalchuk, NJD (zero points and a minus-3 just aren't good enough for a 2nd round pick).
Free Agent Star of the Week (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! leagues): Radim Vrbata (10% owned) with 2+3=5. For an expert analysis on Vrbata and many others, be sure to check out Diomedes' Free Agents and Trade Targets column, posted every Sunday here at FHS.
