Monday's Daily Dosage - Rome, Montador, Carcillo...

It must be the moustache

WTF?... Aaron Rome with 1+2=3 last night and he has 3+2=5, plus-3, 21 PIMs & nine shots in his first four games of the season.  All that from a guy who came into this year with two goals in 131 career NHL games... so to say that I'm an unbeliever would be the understatement of the season.

Mentioned that Steve Montador is playing forward on the Hawks PP the other day and he might just think he's a full-time forward as he jumped up and scored a nice goal at ES last night in addition to a PPG.  Not sure how long he'll stick on the PP but grab him for some short-term help.

Another one on Chicago that I have eyes for right now is Daniel Carcillo as he put home the ENG last night and has 2+3=5, plus-4 & 30 PIMs over his last six games.  He's lining up with Kane & Sharp right now playing around 12-14 minutes a game but he's toned down some of the antics as other than a 21 PIM outburst, he has just 11 PIMs in his remaining 13 games.

B2B worst performances of the season for Nikolai Khabibulin as after giving up three goals in a loss on Friday, he gave up five (on 34 shots) in a loss to Chicago last night.  Not saying that his magical run is over... but it might be.

David Booth is starting to get the swing of things in Van-city with 2+5=7 & 21 shots over his last eight games.

Cody Hodgson with a pair of points last night and has three 2-point games in his last seven outings... he's quietly up to 4th in rookie scoring.

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 32 of 35 but takes his fourth straight loss.  His numbers aren't brutal (2.86 & .912) so maybe the Islanders showcasing him will pay off eventually.

Ryan Getzlaf with just 2A & a minus-6 over his last eight games.  Given that he's on pace for sub-50 points right now after being over a point-per-game in each of the last four seasons, I smell a buy low opportunity.

I'm not sure I'd buy low on Jonas Hiller though, something seems off about this guy.  He was pulled last night after allowing three goals on 15 shots and has now given up three or more goals in six of his last seven outings.  If it wasn't for his vertigo last season I'd say that he'll surely snap out of this but I don't have a good feeling about this.

Two more assists for Nick Leddy in a season high 27:20 last night.  His points have been pretty spread out but now has 1+7=8 over his last nine games.

Taylor Hall has 1A, a minus-5 and just 12 shots over his last six games.  Oh and it's his birthday today, consider this wakeup call your present.

Had to drop Sam Gagner in a keeper league yesterday, dude isn't showing me anything with just two assists in 11 games to start the season.

Tomas Fleischmann with a goal last night and very quietly he is on a nice run with 5+7=12 & plus-10 over his last 10 games.

Brian Campbell is now tied for the most points by a dman after 1+8=9 & plus-4 in his last eight games.  Eleven of his 16 points this year have come on the Panthers #4 ranked PP.

Missed this on Saturday night... with a rash of injuries on the blueline, Brooks Laich played defense for the Caps.  Sounds like it will only be a short-term thing as they'll call somebody up soon. [WaPo]

Curtis Sanford has been activated from the IR and is now the CBJs alternative to Steve Mason.

The Wings Brendan Smith has been called up and after serving the final game of his five game pre-season suspension on Tuesday, he may get into the Wings lineup as a replacement for Ian White.

Paul Postma & Zach Hamill have been sent back to the AHL.
