The biggest and brightest from the past week in Fantasy Land, as voted by FHS writers.
Three Stars of the Week:
3rd Star, from the Detroit Red Wings, numero 93, Johan Franzen... there were a number of players with 6 points on the week but you have to give a slight edge to the Mule with 2 PPG, 2 GWG and a +5. Are we finally seeing Franzen's playoff prowess translate to the regular season? FHS Votes: 2 firsts, 1 third.
2nd Star, from the Los Angeles Kings, numero 8, Drew Doughty... 2+3=5 with 3 PPP and his owners are breathing a sigh of relief as he hasn't done a lot this season. Amazing that in his 4th NHL season, the dude is still only 21 years old. FHS Votes: 3 seconds, 1 third.
1st Star, from the Detroit Red Wings, numero 35, Jimmy Howard... 3 games, 3 wins and a shutout. A 1.33 GAA and .948 SV% don't hurt either. After a couple of small hiccups and a six game losing streak, the Red Wings juggernaut appears to have righted itself with four straight convincing wins. Howard's knock last year was a lack of decent peripherals, but so far this year he is answering those criticisms nicely. FHS Votes: 2 firsts, 1 second, 1 third.
Honorable mention: Tyler Seguin, BOS (3 GP, 4+2=6, +4, 9 SOG)
Rookie Star of the Week: Craig Smith, NAS. As the Adam Henriques and Matt Reads of the world begin to cool off, Craig Smith just keeps rolling. 3+1=4 in three games last week with15 SOG. Now on pace for 70 points. How is it that he is currently only owned in 24% of Yahoo! Leagues?. Go get him!Breakout Star of the Week: Brad Marchand, BOS. 3 GP, 3+3=6 and a +5 as he hitches his wagon to Tyler Seguin's unstoppable point machine. Right place, right time for ultra-pest Marchand.
HM: Drew Doughty, LA (as detailed above. Finally!)
Breakdown of the Week: Zach Parise, NJD. Holy crap. What's going on here? 3 games, 0 points, 0 PIM and minus 5. This looks especially bad when he averaged 25 minutes per game in those three games. It's officially panic time.
DHM: Ondrej Pavelec, (3GS, 0 Wins. 4.42 GAA, .862 Save%. A sieve.), Ryan Miller, (4.59 GAA, .849 SV%. Still managed a win, so not quite Pavelec-bad, but light years away from Miller standards)
Free Agent Star of the Week (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! Leagues): Valtteri Filppula (28% owned). Filppula has always had the talent, but playing 3rd wheel on a line with Henrik Zetterberg and a red-hot Franzen is paying some nice dividends. 1+4=5 and +5 on the week.
HM: Artem Anisimov (6% owned, 0+4=4, +4), Craig Smith (as mentioned above, only 24% owned).
