Saturday's Daily Dosage - RNH, Gustavsson, Nystrom...
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with two goals last night to give him a boffo 3+7=10 over the past seven days. I was concerned about the Oilers lack of production on the road but they've put up 11 goals against two pretty good defensive teams in Nashville & Minnesota, so I'll just stop concerning myself.
Just like clockwork, I mention how Zach Bogosian is sucking yesterday and he has 2A, plus-3 & two PIMs last night... and now that I noted how good he was, he'll likely go into a funk for the next five games.
Despite all the flak he's taken, Jonas Gustavsson has won three in a row and has been pretty good for an extended stretch going 6-2-0, 2.60 & .914 over his last nine games.
Curtis Sanford is turning into a story here as he stopped 28 of 29 for the win and hasn't lost in regulation yet this year (3-0-2, 1.27 & .950). Don't expect this to last but it's already lasted longer than I thought it would so what do I know?
Cory Schneider has won three in a row, including back-to-back shutouts. So there is really no rush for Luongo to get healthy but he is expected to get the start tonight.
Tim Connolly extended his point streak to four games where he has 2+5=7.
A 24 save shutout for Brian Elliott improves his league leading ratios to 1.34 & .951 through 11 games. He's allowed three goals in four games since The Cock took over while only facing 24.3 shots/60.
David Backes with two points last night and he has 4+2=6 & plus-4 over his last six games.
Big night for the Hawks as they stormed back in the 3rd period to slay the Ducks. Patrick Sharp with the hat-job and Jonathan Toews with the royal sampler as he had one of everything with 2+3=5, plus-3, two PIMs, GWG, six shots & 12 FOWs. Toews now has 7+8=15 & plus-7 over his last eight games.
Things are going from worse to brutal for Jonas Hiller as he was pulled yesterday after allowing five goals on 33 shots. As I've said before, I'm not buying low on him right now as I don't have confidence that he's the same goalie that he was pre-vertigo.
After starting the year with six straight wins, Jhonas Enroth is now 1-3-1, 3.47 & .891 over his last five games.
Rick Nash with two goals yesterday and he has 3+2=5, plus-4 & 17 shots over his last four games. His season looks like it's starting to turn around.
Blake Comeau was claimed by the Flames and in their lineup last night. He played 15 minutes but couldn't locate his first point of the season. I was hoping Comeau would land in a good spot but I wouldn't say this is that as he played with Stempniak & Horak last night.
Roman Josi has been called up by the Predators. Josi suffered a UBI in training camp and is just getting back up to speed after playing five games in the AHL (1+3=4). He's worth keeping an eye on as he might step right onto the #2 PP unit and Barry Trotz tends to get solid production from his dmen.
Paul Byron, Maxim Goncharov & Matt Hackett are all headed back to the AHL. The Flames say they want to create a roster spot so Byron can come back up very soon.
