Friday's Daily Dosage - Khabibulin, Iginla, E.Kane...

It was #1 vs #3 in terms of goalies (based on our rankings so far) last night and Nikolai Khabibulin may be moving up the list as he stopped all 19 Kings shots for his second shutout of the season and improved his numbers to 6-0-2, 0.98 & .963.   Despite being #1, Jonathan Quick has now given up exactly three goals in four straight games following his shutout streak.

Jarome Iginla was reunited with his old nemesis Olli Jokinen last night and it seemed to spark Iggy as he had 2+1=3 & six shots.  He had just two goals coming in but he tends to start slow.

This is what I'm talking about... Evander Kane with the Gordie Howe Hat-Trick last night with 1+1=2, plus-3, 5 PIMs & 3 shots.  He dropped the gloves with Travis Hamonic and also rang one off the post on a penalty shot... so busy night.  After a slow start Kane now has 5+3=8 & 20 shots over his last six games.

Evgeni Malkin has made it through four straight games without taking one off and he now has 3+3=6 during a three game point streak.

Matt Cullen with a nice evening with 2+1=3, plus-2 & nine shots but sadly he's been his typical average self with just 4+1=5 in 11 games coming in so I wouldn't get too excited.  His career is awesomely mediocre... he's had over 40 points seven times but has never had 50 or more.

Star-divide

It was the first NHL start for the Leafs Ben Scrivens and he stopped 38 of 39 for the victory... nice of his teammates to spot him a four goal lead over the hapless CBJs.

Steve Mason sucked again last night... four goals on 11 shots.  He's given up 4+ goals in six of 12 games this year and two or less in just three... not a good ratio.

Ryan Johansen with another goal last night and the kid has 3+2=5 in his last six games.  Maybe they'll smarten up and move him to the top line with Nash.  Or more likely management will be fired and the new coach will look like a genius when he makes this his first order of business.

Ilya Kovalchuk with two assists last night, one on a goal by Zach Parise and the other on the first NHL goal for Adam Henrique.  Keep an eye on Henrique as he's drawn the assignment of playing with Kovy & Parise and he's put up 1+3=4 over his last three games.  Sounds like people are pretty frustrated with Parise but please hang in there, you'll regret giving up on him too early.  It's just some bad luck as goalies are stopping shots at a rate of .936 when he's on the ice at ES and that won't continue.

David Clarkson with goals in B2B games to go along with nine shots last night.

Another assist for Dmitry Kulikov last night and he has 0+6=6, plus-4 & 16 shots over his last six games.  He was a bit of a liability cause he never shot the puck (just 83 shots last year) but he's on pace for a solid 150 this season.

Goals in four straight game for Patric Hornqvist but last night's was an ENG so keep your pants on.  But the shots are encouraging as he has 18 during this four game stretch.

Antti Niemi was pulled after just two minutes last night as he gave up two goals on six shots.  This is following up a loss on Monday against the Rangers where he was beaten five times... so someone is fighting it right now.

Ryane Clowe with a goal, a fight, six shots & three hits last night... all in a day's work for this fantasy stud.

Jacob Markstrom was given the start for FLA and he looked good stopping 31 of 33 against Chicago but ended up with the SOL.

Quality birthday for Pekka Rinne yesterday as he signed a seven-year ($49M) deal and then recorded a 35 save shutout.  He's started 12 straight for the Preds to start the season so he's working hard for the money.

The Rangers have reportedly signed Anton Stralman to a deal... expect him to see a lot of PP time as the Rangers have a serious need.  That is if he can stay in the lineup, as I can see Torts getting frustrated with this guy.

Grant Clitsome was a healthy scratch last night.

how good can this guy be if he didn’t make the Blue Jackets blueline?

LOL

Good point, maybe he needs the “change of scenery”

He does have potential to put up PPP if he doesn’t blow the chance

yeah, I’m cautiously optimistic but not overly hopeful… is that vague enough for ya?

Malkin

looks healthy, but that was one of the least impressive 2-goal games i’ve seen

Hang in there on Parise

Would Eberle for Parise be a reasonable buy-low offer to a current Parise owner? Do you think Eberle can keep up the nice pace he’s set this early? I certainly don’t think it’s a low-ball offer by any means, as Eberle is a top prospect and doing what everyone expects he can do in the NHL, but still very young.

it’s worth a shot but I doubt it’s accepted. Eberle will most likely slow down but 60+ points is still possible.
