Thursday's Daily Dosage - Emery, Spezza, Visnovsky

Rejoicing is cool, but man that's creepy.

Filling in for Cam today as he's DTD. We'll monitor his status on the Injury Updates piece for the next couple of days. Big shoes to fill here.

Rich Peverley with 1+1=2 last night and that gives him 2+7=9 over the last 9 games. He's at 21 points in 28 games on the season, good for a 62 point pace. Still don't think this guy is going to be a 60-point player when all is said and done, but he could be useful for stretches.

Daniel Alfredsson with 1+1=2 and he's got 3+6=9 with 28 SOG over his last 9 games. Seems like he's shooting the puck more. Remember last season he shot just 96 times in 54 games. He may be useful until he gets hurt again.

Jason Spezza with 1+1=2 and he's riding a four game point streak with 1+6=7. He's also at exactly a point per game with 32 in 32.

Not to be outdone by Tuukka, Tim Thomas turned away 47 of 49 shots to get the win for the Bruins. Dude is unreal.

Star-divide

Ray Emery fueled the goalie controversy fire last night getting the SOW against the Wild. He's finished the last 5 games for the Hawks and won the 4 of those 5 that he started. He made 27 saves on 30 shots and stopped both of the shootout attempts he saw. He's up to 19% owned in Yahoo! and I see that number climbing. It's not like he's never been a starter before.

I hadn't realize what a sick run Jonathan Toews is on. After his 1+1=2 last night, he has 8+7=15 over his last nine games. He's always been below a point per game player but with 34 points in 31 games, he's looking to change that trend.

Patrick Sharp chipped in a PPA to keep his points streak alive at seven. He's 6+4=10 with 23 SOG over that span.

No points and a minus-2 for Nick Leddy and this guy is slumping big time with just 0+2=2, 8 SOG, and a minus-4 over his last 10.

Lubomir Visnovsky returned from injury and led the Ducks with 24:23 TOI. He put up a PPA so let's hope there's more of the same in store.

Interesting stuff here as Niklas Hagman found himself on a line with Perry and Getzlaf at times and received 4:45 of PP TOI. He scored twice including one on the PP. This situation is worth monitoring as, really the only way he can be useful is with great linemates.

Mike Smith with the loss in Anaheim and he's only won 1 of the last 6 games while letting in 4 goals in four of those six games. He's falling back to earth but I don't think you have to worry about him losing time to Jason LaBarbera.

Another guy in a tailspin is Oliver Ekman-Larsson with 0 points in his last 10 games. I guess this won't be a breakout season for him.

Leddy

I think part of the problem is that he isn’t getting much PP time. He somehow logged 27 minutes last night with exactly 0 of those on the PP. It seems that they’re going with a unit of Toews-Kane-Hossa-Sharp-Keith about 75% of the time. When he does get some PP time lately, it looks like he plays with Bolland-Brunette-Kruger-Montador. Yuck.

The odd thing is he clearly has the trust of the coaching staff. He’s been playing as many minutes, if not more, than Brent Seabrook, especially shorthanded.

I’ve hitched my wagon to him in one league, so I have faith.

I was keeping the faith too, until someone offered me Subban for him. So I will let them have the faith.

Ridiculous offer. That guy needs his head examined. Good for you, though.

Picked up Subban on waivers today in my 12 man league :)

The best part with Subban is even if he’s slumping a bit he still gives you a ton of shots and PIMs.

He should never have been a FA in a 12 man league.

many teams have gone to that

4 forwards 1 d-man 1st powerplay unit especially if there is a good 2-way responsible forward like Toews there.
with the highly skilled players out there they are able to spend more time in the offensive zone conserve energy and leave little time to 2nd powerplay unit

There aren’t many quality PP QB’s out there. How many teams are desperate for somebody to lead their PP?

So you believe what?

Leddy should be on 1st unit over Duncan Kieth? or He should be traded to the Devils?

I vote Devils :)

I should be........

The 100 million dollar man’s new agent!!!

I love the 4 forward system… I think it’s a smart play.

I’m saying quality offensive dmen are tough to find (ask anybody who has traded for or signed Kaberle) so teams have no choice but to go with one (or zero) forwards on the PP.

Alfredsson or Hemsky?

I’ve been sticking tight with Hemsky hoping for him to give me something but Alfredsson is available and I was thinking about finally dropping Hemsky for him. Go for it or stick it out with Hemsky a little while longer? Categories are G, A, P, PPP, Hits, Blocks.

Alfie because

He is healthy at this point which Hemsky is not (according to TSN 12/3) He is still dealing with shoulder issues

by MasterOfPuppets on Dec 15, 2011 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

agreed, go for Alfie, as Mike pointed out he’s showing a little more life lately.

Alfie as well

For the reasons stated above and because, let’s be honest, Ottawa has few weapons up front and Alfie is one of their main ones. Edmonton has a ton of young firepower so the oft-injured Hemsky can easily be hedged out.
