December Fantasy Hockey Rankings: Left Wings
Gotta Love Fat Ovi!
Just Not In Our Player Rankings...
Look, I love Ovechkin's carefree personality as much as the next guy. I didn't think it affected his on ice performance one iota. And I tried like heck to trade for him over the summer. Even after the pics of his vodka gut were published (buy low?):

But no one was selling...
Well, we have two months of real NHL action in our rear view, and Ovi just isn't cutting it. If I owned him, I'd be looking to Sell High. I can hear the howls of disbelief and the gnashing of teeth already, but c'mon, if you can get a King's ransom there is no downside.

**Re: position designations--if a player is listed with dual eligibility of W/C, he will be ranked among the wings.
If he is listed as a LW/RW he will be ranked at the position where he sees/has seen the most ice time.
***ESPN continues to add dual position eligibility, however, I am not updating as we'd be left with very few pure centres. It is a bit arbitrary, but should also improve one's ability to make player comparisons (by dividing the forwards out somewhat evenly).

Ovie is a tough call. I’d still take the risk and would be willing to offer up a nice package for him. Add in his 90 point potential with his hits and shots and he’s like nobody else in fantasy business. I’d be hopeful a new coach helps.
How did Zach Parise escape your scorn? He’s on pace for 45 points and a -29 but he moved up three spots in the rankings?

I can see both sides of the Ovechkin argument.
I just know that when I was trying to acquire him this summer, even offering the moon, my first born child, and a #1 netminder was not enough. If I could get that coming back now…I’d be all over it.
Parise?
He’s a hockey player. He has heart. No vodka gut. Not “enigmatic.” And NJ is about to get some reinforcements down the middle.
Mostly, though, I feel there is a drop from the Top #7 to #8 (good get).
At 6, I’ve got Ovechkin, and at 7, I am liking Kesler a lot. He has 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists) in his last 6 games, and appears to have put his hip issues behind him.
nice list.
only a few qualms.
think lupul earned a higher spot than credited for. and fleischmann. i hate to say it for both, but stat lines dont lie, they are producing. thats what fantasy is all about. the likes of ovechkin and parise are not. its fact. i know ppl would shit a brick if fleischman and ovie were in the same sentence, let alone ranked higher. im not saying that, but they do deserve top 15 respectively.
of course its a long season, but as of late, they are producing.
It’s a solid list (I’m surprised to see Kesler and Skinner on it, as I play in a Yahoo! league, but that’s probably where I’d place them if I thought of them at LW). Sharp is perhaps a little higher than I would give him credit for, but I agree that Benn is elite and the future is now.
One thing: you have Cammalleri at No. 22 while Fleischmann floats in a bubble somewhere with a bunch of guys who will all likely have better seasons than Cammalleri. I’m going to have to second Duffy’s qualm and query whether Fleischmann shouldn’t be occupying that No. 22 spot, or perhaps a spot higher.
good points. Lupul and Flash have been excellent so far this year. they could definitely be higher. both are currently ranked in the top 10 at their position in standard leagues.
i try to look forward though, and i still don’t trust those guys as much as the others above them.
if i owned them though, i’d be psyched.
Lupul at 21 is such a complete joke. 26 the last time was okay considering that it was based on such a short period of time but he hasn’t slowed down and him and Kessel look completely dominant together.
Yeah Lupul has been great but if I own any of the guys above I don’t think I would move them for Lupul.
Would like to see a few more months of this before I’m fully sold on him.

that’s exactly my thinking. i like Lupul, but would i trade him for any of the guys immediately above him: EKane, Marleau, Clowe, Zetterberg…? probably not.
he’s streaky. and his linemate, Kessel, is also streaky. and, they don’t have a centreman that instills confidence. also, he comes w/ more injury risk than most.
that said, i could see how someone else’s analysis might land him a bit higher.
Ovi ranked good
Let’s see if he picks it up..
I like the top 5. Fleischmann could probably be in top 25 with the way he is playing but like you said, we have to look at the remainder of the season as well
