Fantasy Stars of the Week - Week #8
The biggest and brightest from the past week in Fantasy Land, as voted by FHS writers.
Three Stars of the Week:
3rd Star, from the Colorado Avalanche, numero 37, Ryan O`Reilly... 4 games, 4+3=7, +6, 13 SOG. His TOI/G has increased by a full two minutes this year, and it's showing. Guy needs to get on the board during the PP though as he posted all of his points at even strength. FHS Votes: 1 second, 1 third.
2nd Star, from the Minnesota Wild, numero 32, Niklas Backstrom.. 3GP, 3 wins, 2.07 GAA and .931 SV%. After a shaky couple of weeks, Backstrom decided to play scrooge to Josh Harding owners by taking back the number one gig in style. But in true scrooge tradition, Backstrom then realized the error of his ways and gifted a nice little groin strain to those very same Harding owners. It's that most wonderful time of the year. FHS Votes: 1 second, 1 third.
1st Star, from the New York Islanders, numero 26, Matt Moulson... In three games this week, Moulson took 16 shots, scored six times (including four against Dallas) and added a helper. Accepting this award on Moulson's behalf will be John Tavares, who wrote, produced and directed Mr. Moulson's latest work. The guy is a sniper though - after seasons of 30 and 31 goals, the Eyebrowed One is now on pace for 44 freaking goals. His 21.2 shooting% can't last, but the drop-off to his career average of 14.6% isn't that steep either. FHS Votes: 3 firsts, 1 second.
Honorable mention: Miikka Kiprusoff (4 GP, 2 wins, 1.82 GAA, .935 SV%), Jordan Eberle (4 GP, 3+2=5, +4, 19 SOG, 2 PPP), Jonathan Quick (2 GP, 2 wins, 0.50 GAA, .988 SV%)
Rookie Star of the Week: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with 2+3=5, +2, 2 PPP and the kid keeps rolling even with Taylor Hall out of the lineup. It's looking like RNH may win this weekly award more often than not.
HM: Craig Smith (4 GP, 1+4=5, 4 PIM)
Breakout Star of the Week: Evander Kane, WPG. Let's all give Cam a hand - he made the big call of a 70 point season for Kane. After his big week (3 games, 4+1=5) he's on pace for 67 points.
HM: Evander Kane. Yep, that's right.
Breakdown of the Week: Tomas Kaberle, CAR. We've been warning you not to take this guy for years. After his pathetic zero point, minus-4 performance this week he's on pace for just 15 points and a minus-42. Ug-lee.
DHM: Joes Pavelski and Thornton (both with 0 points and -4), Martin Brodeur (0 and 2, 7.92 GAA, .690 SV%)
Free Agent Star of the Week (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! leagues): Ryan O'Reilly again, with only 13% ownership. Worth an add to see if this whole breakout thing can actually pan out.
HM: Bryan Little (22% owned, 3 GP, 1+4=5, +4)

I demand a recount… I think a few voters didn’t stay up late to see O’Reilly cap off his crazy week.
Plus, what more does Brodeur have to do to? Giving up nine goals on 29 shots last week wasn’t enough?

I picked Kaberle over Brodeur!
Why? Because I own Broduer in three leagues (two no, just shipping him out in one). I’m trying to block out his season.
