Thursday's Daily Dosage - Foligno, Kassian, Carlson...
A beauty goal last night for Nick Foligno (video below) and that extends his point streak to five games (3+3=6, plus-5 & eight PIMs). As I mentioned the other day, I was a little late to the party here but am enjoying this run from Foligno... just wish he'd bring "The Hop" back.
Troy Brouwer used to play tough back in Jr. & the AHL but he hasn't shown that in the NHL. Well maybe Dale Hunter is rubbing off on him as he had a Gordie Howe Hat-Trick last night and has 11 PIMs in five games since Hunter took over... and then we just need him to shoot more and we'd have a useful player.
Zack Kassian played a season high 15 minutes last night and added 1+1=2 to his total which is now 3+2=5 & nine PIMs in six games. Watch his ice-time to see how that moves as he gets more comfortable and once the Sabres get healthier.
Again it was Dennis Wideman getting the big PP time but John Carlson was the one with 1+2=3 & four shots in 27 minutes last night. It's pretty obvious that he's benefiting from and enjoying having Hunter as a coach and going back prior to his hiring Carlson has 3+9=12 in his last 10 games.
We seemed to see an engaged Alex Ovechkin last night as he was flying around the ice and looking to shoot... he scored on seven shots and that was his first goal in six games. It's coming.
Corey Crawford has been less than good so far this season so Ray Emery gets another start tonight... interesting!
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored late to extend his point streak to five games (3+3=6), there are no signs that this kid is slowing down.
Sam Gagner with an assist last night to give him a little three game point streak (1+2=3).
An assist last night for Derek Roy... well, whipdee-doo, he has no goals, 4A & minus-6 over his last 10 games. He's typically a pretty consistent performer so I'd expect him to come around but he seems to be struggling when Vanek isn't his wingman.
Marc-Andre Gragnani with his first point in six games last night but he also was the culprit on the brutal giveaway that gifted Giroux the breakaway in OT. He's been pretty meh this year as he's on pace for 28 points and has a solid plus-10 but has just three goals and is on pace for just 64 shots with barely any PIMs.
I hadn't realized how pointless Grant Clitsome has been lately... as in no points over his last nine games.
4-point night for Claude Giroux and with 7+10=17 in his last 10 games, he's taken over the league scoring league. He's getting some Hart Trophy chatter and deservedly so as his 36 points are 13 better than the next best Flyer (who is Scott Hartnell and he owes most his points to Giroux).
A goal on six shots last night for Milan Michalek and he has five in his last five games. I'm not buying that this guy is a candidate for the Rocket Richard so I'm gonna say that he makes a solid sell high candidate.
Another goal for the hot Jamie McBain and that gives him 3+2=5 over his last three games.
Tomas Kaberle led the Hurricanes with 5:53 on the PP (18 minutes overall) and has 4A over his last two games... so maybe he's not dead yet?
The Blues have sent Evgeny Grachev to the AHL. He teased people in the preseason but this guy is a marginal prospect.
Here's video of that goal by Foligno...
