Wednesday's (and Tuesday's) Daily Dosage - Versteeg, Whitney, Jokinen...

Over the last three seasons we haven't missed a single Daily Dosage... well until yesterday.  All it took was the Internet to explode and me having to choose between my job and FHS (it was a tough choice but I stuck with the job).  Anyway, sorry if you missed out on yesterday's news... we have an extra large Dosage for you today.

A fantasy relevant trade as Kris Versteeg was shipped to Philly for a 1st and 3rd (seems pretty steep to me).  He played his first game for his new club last night and had zero points, minus-1, 2 shots in over 17 minutes of action.  As I said yesterday his PP time is going to drop (he only played 2 seconds on the PP last night) but at least he'll get some better linemates (he played with Mike Richards and Andres Nodl).  Other sites are saying his value is increasing dramatically but I don't see it.  Don't expect anything more than the 50 point pace he's currently on.

James van Riemsdyk got bumped from Richards wing but ended up playing with Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux last night.  He picked up 1+1=2 in less than 14 minutes of action.  Like Versteeg his upside is limited as he's not getting much PP TOI (35 seconds last night).

Speaking of Giroux after an assist last night he has a sweet 16 points in his last 13 games.  He's one breakout pick we definitely got right.

Vincent Lecavalier is only playing at a 60 point pace this year.  That is a brutal return on your investment right there.  But wait... we have a sign of life: After a goal last night, he has nine points in his last eight games.

Phil Kessel had two goals last night against the B's.  First time he's scored against his former squad in ten games... you know he enjoyed that.  It was also the first time he's scored in 14 games... you know his owners enjoyed that.

Joffrey Lupul picked up his first two points (both assists) as a Leaf.  He was playing with Tyler Bozak & Kessel and is also on the 1st PP unit.  He could surprise and play around a 50 point pace.

The rise of Michael Grabner continues.  He picked up another two points last night (1+1) and now has an incredible 22 points in his last 15 games.  He had only 13 points in the 38 games before that and is now on pace for exactly 50 points.

The Sabres called up Jonas Enroth from the AHL to give Ryan Miller a bit of a break (sucks to be Patrick Lalime).  He picked up his third career win (all three have been shootout wins) stopping 34 of 36.  He's got a lot of potential but being stuck behind Miller really limits his upside.  Deep keeper leagues need to grab him and hope for a deal.

Drew Stafford potted his 24th goal and has 20 goals in his last 23 games... 50 goals in 50 games?

Big night for Pekka Rinne as he stopped 48 of the 50 Shark shots... not good enough though as Antti Niemi stopped 30 of 31 for the OT win.  Rinne had a great finish to the season last year... I've got a hunch it could happen again.

The only guy to beat Rinne in regulation was Devin Setoguchi.  He's now got nine points in his last 10 games but is still on pace for just 30 points.

Cal Clutterbuck also scored last night and also has nine points in his last ten games.  He's on pace for 40 points which is pretty impressive after he had only 21 and 18 in his first two NHL seasons.

It's been a pretty miserable season for Shawn Horcoff and his owners (if there are any left).  A little glimmer of hope last night as he had a 1+2=3.

Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 24 of 25 shots and won.  Win.  Khabibulin.  First time those two words have been in the same sentence since Dec 16th.  14 losses in a row... I'm gonna miss that streak.

On Monday night, Andy McDonald picked up a 1+1=2 and he now has six points in six games since he returned from injury.  He's probably been swooped off your waiver wire by now but have a look just in case.  He'll make a good add for your stretch drive.

Alex Pietrangelo picked up 2 PP assists last night and now has nine points in his last 14 games.  He's in the middle of a nice breakout campaign as he's on pace for 40 points.

Ray Whitney had two points for the Yotes on Monday night as well.  He now has 16 points in the last 15 games.  He's only owned in 46% of Yahoo! leagues.  That should be higher.

Ilya Bryzgalov is super hot right now... 5 wins, 1.18 gaa and .955 sv% over his last five games.  I picked him up in a trade a month or so ago.  But of course I had him on my bench last week.  Damn.

Calgary dropped the nine-spot on the Avs Monday night so a few big nights to throw out there:
- Olli Jokinen (1+3=4 has 20 points in his last 17 games).  After his start (21 points in first 39 games) I kinda took him off my radar so this snuck up on me.  If I was looking for a guy with some upside down the stretch I'd roll the dice with Olli.  He should get you a 50 point pace at worst.
- Jarome Iginla (2+0=2 has 21 points in his last 18 games).  He's definitely over his early season struggles.  Nice to have you back Jarome.
- Rene Bourque (0+2=2) has four points in his last five after only one in the ten games before.  Maybe this will jump start his poor pace this season.
- Finally, even though they aren't really fantasy worthy: Curtis Glencross (2+1=3 has 13 points in his last 11 games) and David Moss (1+3=4).
Calgary seems like a good ship to attach your fantasy team... at least for the short term.

Healthy scratches last night: Lars Eller and J.P. Dumont,
