James Reimer laid another egg last night as he gave up five goals on 29 shots before getting yanked and he's now 1-3-1, 4.42 & .887 over his last five games. Maybe he's wearing down (he's started 12 in a row) or maybe he's not the saviour that everyone was making him out to be a few weeks ago?
It wasn't the fairytale return to Chicago that Antti Niemi was hoping for as he gave up four goals on 18 shots and was pulled after 27 minutes. After being the hottest goalie for about six weeks, he's gone into a bit of a funk going 1-2-2, 3.25 & .876 over his last five games but he has faced some stiff competition in teams like CHI, VAN & NSH during that stretch.
Lots of the Hawks were getting in on it last night but none more than Patrick Sharp as he had 4A... in the 2nd period! He's been great all year and is on pace for close to 40 goals & 80 points but he's really picked it up lately with 6+13=19 over his last 13 games.
Mikael Samuelsson with 2A last night and he has an assist in five straight games. Despite a couple of short point bursts, he's only on pace for 55 points, not bad but he's always a guy that leaves you wanting more.
Fantasy stat-line of the night goes to Ryan Kesler with 2G, PPG, GWG, four PIMs & seven shots... dude's been having a whale of a season.
3A & a plus-4 last night for Brett Clark and while he won't contribute in too many cats, he's on pace to crack 30 points in a quietly solid season.
A pair of assists for Teddy Purcell last night and he's been real good lately with 9+12=21 & plus-10 over his last 21 games... he should crack the 50 point barrier shortly.
Dion Phaneuf added a goal last night and has been much improved lately with 3+5=8, plus-4 & 28 shots over his last 10 games.
The Flyers have called Erik Gustafsson up from the AHL to fill-in while Pronger is out and the Oilers have brought up 20-year-old Teemu Hartikainen from the AHL where he's been producing at a decent pace (13+23=36 in his last 51 games) after a slow start.
The Avs signed their 1st round pick from last summer's draft, Joey Hishon, to an ELC. I'm a big fan of this kid, he leads the OHL in points/gm this season at 1.73 (36+47=83 in 48 games) and had two solid seasons prior to this one. He'll be either in the NHL or AHL next season, it wouldn't surprise me to see him jump straight to the show.
The Leafs have signed Jake Gardiner to an ELC, he came over from Anaheim in the Beauchemin trade. He just finished his Jr. season at UofWisconsin where he put up 10+31=41 in 41 games, 4th in scoring amongst dmen in the NCAA. He has some offensive potential but I don't think he'll be a big point producer and will likely need at least a season in the AHL.
San Jose has added 21-year-old Finn Harri Sateri to their goaltending stable as he has joined Worcester in the AHL after finishing his season in the SM-Liiga. He's been pretty solid over the past three seasons in the top flight in Finland and will now try to prove himself in North America.
