Tuesday's Injury Updates - Salo, Byfuglien, McBain...
For a consolidated list of injuries & current status, see our Injury Updates page.
Sami Salo took a shot in the arm last night and left the game in a lot of pain... the team said he didn't break anything but I'm sure that won't prevent him from sitting out a while.
Not sure when this happened but Jason Arnott is listed as week-to-week with an undisclosed injury.
Dustin Byfuglien left practice early yesterday after re-aggravating a LBI that kept him out of a game last week... he's questionable for tonight's game.
David Moss messed up his leg/ankle in practice yesterday and had to be helped from the ice so it doesn't sound good.
Chris Pronger will have surgery on his hand and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.
Jamie McBain's shoulder injury will keep him on the shelf for 3-4 weeks.
Kris Letang (head) missed practice yesterday but was checked out by the doctor and it sounds like he might be able to play tonight.
Steven Kampfer (concussion) could return tonight.
Brian Rafalski (back) should return Wednesday.
Returning to action from the injured list last night: Mikko Koivu & Antero Niittymaki.

Caps GM George McPhee (GMGM) on HNL Live RE Arnott
Paraphrasing here – Arnott had an injury before the trade but the team wanted him to get a few games in with the Caps and then have it taken care of in time to be healthy for the playoffs. He played in the last game against Chicago including OT so it doesn’t seem as though it was an in-game injury.

Thanks…. but why did they have to wait until Tuesday AM to spring this on us, I got him (and Salo) in my lineup this week.

If you're in a yahoo H2H
Can we then presume you didn’t finish in first or second? I’m bored this week with bye’s (first place) in my three H2H teams.

Well done.
Both of my yahoo H2H leagues are in the final week, with only a three week playoff starting next week but I’m outside of a bye in both… 4th & 5th but hoping to make some noise in the playoffs.

No that’s his mouth… he talks a lot of shit

I prefer it that way (even thought I complain about it)… can’t stand daily transactions.

Weekly leagues are much better…. here’s just another example of why daily leagues stink:
I’m in a daily league (finished the season in 2nd). My team is looking good except for my #2 goalie. Nothing on the wire but then Holtby goes on his run. I think, ‘perfect, I’ll grab him and hope the hot streak continues’. I log on and he’s gone. Damn! Until I realize the guy who picked him up dropped Pekka Rinne!
I put a waiver claim on Rinne and got him. I’m sitting pretty now.
The other owner did it because he was 2 points out of the final playoffs spot and he needed the goalie start. Can’t really blame him but I’d be pissed if I was anybody else in the league.
I’ve noticed a few other owners doing similar stuff with forwards.

that sounds more like the owners in the league. who thinks that by dropping Pekka Rinne they’ll improve their chances?
Yeah I couldn’t believe it as well. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it as I was the big benefactor.
This situation was due to the owner but I’ve seen several other similar examples happening this week. It’s a pretty common occurance for a daily league from my experiences.

Uh, there was no one else he could've dropped?
A defenseman for instance, his worst right wing. Even if he made in, it would’ve been a pyrrhic victory.

i can see the advantage in “set it and forget about it” (for the week)
but just seems like a lot of opps for frustration
like this past Sunday — hard to get news on Stastny or Buff or MKoivu — so you have to guess.
i’ve never been in a weekly. i might end up liking it better, but from here, it doesn’t sound good. i hear too many people complaining. re: Jay’s complaint about a daily league…that’s the 1st time I’ve heard of something like that. seems like a one off event.
Here’s another complaint for you.
Daily League
- I look at my lineup for that day and it takes me 2 seconds to set it. Just activate whoever is playing that day. Very rarely do I ever have to make a tough decision.
Weekly League
- I agonize over decisions. I’ll set a lineup and come back and re-adjust it before Sunday. Which is better 4 games of Claude Giroux or 3 games of Pavel Datsyuk?
I would much rather have a league with more difficult decisions than less ones.
I wish we could get the best of both worlds. Weekly freezes on the lineup but if a guy gets hurt you could sub him out. Maybe one day.

Weekly League – I hear you…
Sat Pavelski after 0 pts in 3 games last week in favour of Grabovski. Then Pavelski rips off 6 pts in two games… arghh
