The much maligned Joe Thornton with the series-clinching goal in OT last night and you know that has to be sweet for him... in five prior playoff seasons with the Sharks he only has nine goals and three GWGs, so could this be the year for Joe as after the 1st round he already has two goals and two winners? This guy (thumbs pointing inwards) is hoping so as I went all in on the Sharks in the FHS Playoff Pool and so far the boys are making me look smart as I'm up to 6th place.
Steve Downie with the big performance last night with 1+2=3, plus-3 and the GWG. That's 1+4=5 over the past two games despite not seeing a lot of ice-time as he only played 12:17 last night and that was a playoff high. This guy is a nice piece on any fantasy team due to the PIMs (2.62 /gm career avg) but I really think he has the potential to put up some decent offensive numbers as well.
Marc-Andre Fleury gave up four goals on just 21 shots last night to take the loss. Normally you'd think that home ice would help in game #7 but Fleury has given up four goals in each of his last two home games (both losses). Also, recall that last year's game #7 at home against Montreal was a disaster (four goals on 13 shots and he was pulled in the 2nd period).
Vigneault has announced that he's going with Roberto Luongo tonight for game #7... I think that's what he has to do but I'd still be pretty fricken nervous about Luu as he has a .792 sv% over the last three games (all losses).
Dwayne Roloson made the key saves last night (27 of 29) and sent the series to a game #7. Heard a crazy stat the Rollie is 5-0 in playoff elimination games... I can't confirm or deny that but it sounds good.
The Sharks stuck with Antti Niemi for game #6 and he rewarded them (kinda) by stopping 26 of 29 shots and picking up the OT win. He's now given up 3+ goals in each of his last five games and heads into round #2 with a 3.99 gaa & .863 sv%.
The Oilers signed Martin Marincin, a 2nd round pick from 2010, to an ELC yesterday. The big Slovak had a nice debut season in the WHL with 14+42=56 in 67 games, good for 7th in the league among dmen. He could play in the AHL next year or could return to Prince George, either way he's a long-term project but there's some potential here.
Two series go to game #7 tonight and we all know that nobody loves a GAME SEVVVEEENNNNNN!!!! more than Zaza...
