Thursday's Daily Dosage - Horton, Price, Roloson...
Nathan Horton was the hero for the Bruins last night with the OT goal on his only shot of the game. He had three goals in the series (two GWGs) and you know how there are guys that always seem to exceed expectations, yeah, Horton is the opposite of that.
Carey Price shouldn't take the heat after the Habs 1st round exit as he played well but the fact of the matter is that he's now 8-15 lifetime in the playoffs and has won just one of the four series when he's been the starting goalie. Jaroslav Halak won two last year, by himself... just sayin'.
It seemed like Tampa went into game #7 with the mindset that they'd have to shut the Penguins out and just hope to get a lucky goal to win it... and it worked. You could probably tell that even without watching the game as Nate Thompson saw more ice-time then Steven Stamkos, same goes for Dominic Moore over Vincent Lecavalier and Adam Hall compared to Ryan Malone.
Guess you can do that when you've got a clutch goalie like Dwayne Roloson minding the net... he stopped all 36 shots last night, is now 6-0 in elimination games and heads into the 2nd round with stellar 1.77 & .949 numbers.
Sean Bergenheim with the only goal last night and he has 3+1=4 during a four game point streak. I think his signing was one of Yzerman's better moves as the GM saw something in him during some disappointing seasons on Long Island and he's filled a valuable role with Tampa.
Marc-Andre Fleury loses a game #7 at home for the second straight season and although he can't be blamed for last night's loss, he didn't have the best post-season with a 2.52 gaa & .899 sv%.
The Penguins needed somebody to step up offensively in this series and while Arron Asham tried, it was a disappointing effort from guys like Chris Kunitz (1+0=1), James Neal (1+1=2), Alex Kovalev (1+1=2) and especially Jordan Staal (1+2=3). I'm always hearing how Staal is ready to bust loose but for one reason or another it never seems to happen for him, which is fine by me as I never pick this guy.
Mike Cammalleri leads the playoffs in scoring as of this morning with 3+7=10 in seven games but I'm guessing that lead will be difficult to hold on to. He was also a minus-5 in the series including a minus-3 last night.
After two goals in game #1, Brian Gionta had only 1+2=3 and was a minus-8 over the last six games of the series.
I found myself keeping an eye on Lars Eller over the course of the Habs-Bruins series as I like his upside and imagine he'll fly under the radar of a lot of fantasy GMs next year after a very quiet rookie season. Now that he's established himself as an NHLer, the key for him next year will be moving up the lineup and increasing his ice-time.
Kootenay swept Medicine Hat last night and will head to the WHL finals... Cody Eakin was a monster in the series with 5+4=9 in four games while Flames 2010 3rd rounder Max Reinhart had five goals in last night's game and has 14+8=22 in 14 playoff games so far.
