Tuesday's Daily Dosage - Ivan Hlinka, Hillen, Kovalev...

Both Canada and the US lost their opening game at the Ivan Hlinka yesterday, Sweden dominated Canada 5-1 [recap & summary] and the Finns bettered the US 6-3.  Both teams are back at it again today.  Here is Ross MacLean from ISS with a list of some players the scouts are keeping an eye on during the tournament.

The Predators signed former Islanders dman Jack Hillen to a two-way deal... this is a great spot for him as we've been mentioned that the Preds only have three healthy NHL dmen signed right now and could be rolling out three rookies in their opening night lineup.  Hillen gives Nashville an option to go with a little bit more experience if the choose although I wouldn't expect much from a fantasy standpoint as doesn't really look like an everyday NHL player (despite pretending while he was with the Islanders).

Alex Kovalev being Alex Kovalev here in a Russian interview (via Puck Daddy) as he basically implies that Don Brennan the Ottawa media was drunk and didn't watch the Sens games, that Cory Clouston was a terrible coach and that he'd like to return to the NHL in a few years... oh, and he doesn't understand why people think he's lazy.  That last part is the real shocker here but I wouldn't expect awareness of self to be high on Kovalev's personality traits.

Kent Wilson provides some optimism for fans of James Sheppard and the Sharks while also pointing out how to not develop young NHL prospects.  I'm not sold on Sheppard but am willing to take a wait-and-see approach.

Mike Comrie isn't retiring but it doesn't sound like we'll see him for a while as he had a setback in his recovery from hip surgery that limited him to just 21 games last season.
