Rookie tournaments are sprouting up everywhere... it's nice to have some sorta-real games to follow...
The CBJs rookies just beat the piss out of the Red Wings rookies, 7-3 [boxscore]... Ryan Johansen with two points and Tomas Kubalik with the Gordie Howe Hat-Trick with 2+1=3 & a fight. Kubalik was a bit of a surprise in the AHL last year with 24+29=53 in 76 games (4th amongst rookies) and has a legitimate shot at cracking the NHL roster out of camp this year.
There is apparently no mercy rule in effect at rookie tournaments as the Dallas rookies roughed up Carolina's kids 8-2 [boxscore]. Matt Fraser, an undrafted free agent out of Kootenay, with the hat-trick. He's a late-blooming, underrated prospect to keep an eye on.
The Rangers beat the Blues 5-2 [Rangers Recap here & boxscore], Tim Erixon impressed for the Rangers, as we'd expect for a guy with three years of experience in the SEL. I think he's a lock to make the Rangers and it wouldn't surprise me if Torts uses him a lot... he could surprise a few people this year.
Give Teemu some time... first Teemu Selanne said he'd let the Ducks know about his intentions for this season before July 1st, then it was prior to training camp and now it's likely to be after training camp starts. He wants to play and he's been training as though he's coming back so it would be a surprise if he didn't play this year... but you will have to remain patient.
