Tuesday's Injury Updates - Burns, Morrow, Toews...
This would hurt a lot more if he didn't suck... Brent Burns left last night's game after taking a knee-on-knee hit from Ales Hemsky. He was reportedly in a lot of discomfort as he left the arena, so stay tuned.
Brenden Morrow was placed on the IR due to a neck injury but he may not be out long. Mike Ribeiro (knee) came off the IR and should take his place in the lineup tonight.
Dmitry Kulikov picked up an undisclosed injury on Saturday night and he's doubtful for tonight's game.
Sounds like Patrick Sharp (wrist) will be ready to return right after the All-Star break.
I'm stealing this one from Harrison Mooney... Jonathan Toews' hand injury is not as serious as he is... so he's out for tonight's game and may miss the ASG but should be ready to roll once the real games start back up.
Nicklas Backstrom (concussion) skated for the first time in two weeks yesterday, but he was only on the ice for five minutes, so he looks a ways off.
Sami Salo (concussion) is expected to return tonight. Christian Ehrhoff is also expected to return tonight after missing the last 11 with a UBI.
Returning to action from the injured list last night: R.J. Umberger & Ryan Suter.

doesn’t sound all that minor given the 6-8 week timeframe

well just shoot the messenger why don't you ;)
only reporting what I read
any invasive surgery will be given at least a 4-6 week healing period because that is the norm for tissue regeneration.
given it is a knee this means muscular degeneration (slight) and rehab period.
Young guy bad team no need to rush.

money quote
But they’re not going to force Alex Ovechkin to attend a party he doesn’t want to attend; an event his heart’s not in. I covered Ovechkin at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Trust me: The League doesn’t want Bitter Ovie anywhere near All-Star Weekend, despite his name brand.
Enjoy your vacation, Mr. Ovechkin. You’ll be spared the embarrassment of being picked last in the NHL Fantasy Draft, and the fans in Ottawa will be spared from having to see a sullen superstar who can’t own up to his actions, just like his organization can’t.
He hates the fact that he was suspended.
But he got off easy in light of his long, long rap sheet.
Seems like poor form to me.
Would have been better to go and see if he could score 3 or 4 goals.

it’s funny how the things we love about someone when they are in a role they are well suited for, are the same things that we hate when they are placed in a position they are ill suited for.
Ovechkin is not captain material, never was
the same characteristics which make him a great player, when things are going well, are the absolute worst attributes for a leader of a team in crisis.
there is no lukewarm with him, he simply feels too much, he is unable to just let things go
that is not a bad thing for an athlete, just bad as an example.
As for the All Star Game, I haven’t watched one since I was a naive child who believed Yzerman was better than Gretzky
(In case you are wondering yes I still believe it.)
