Saturday's Daily Dosage - Morrison, Connelly, Crosby...

The Flames & Hawks completed a blockbuster deal as Brendan Morrison goes to Chicago for minor league dman Brian Connelly. Morrison has been pretty banged up this year and he hasn't been given the best assignments but he could end up stepping into the #2C role for the Hawks. People may think that this guy is done but he played at a 50+ point pace last season, so don't write him off. I don't think I'd give up anything to get him but if he was lying on the scrap heap and I had an extra roster spot then I might pick him up.

Connelly is a pretty productive AHL player, he's currently 2nd in league scoring amongst dmen with 5+31=36 in 44 games and ranked 6th in the league last year (11+41=52 in 80 games). So there is some offensive upside and he could get a chance with the Flames starting later this season. This is a good move for Connelly as it didn't look like he was in the Hawks plans and he goes to a Flames team that isn't exactly flush with offensive prospects.

Reports say that Sidney Crosby has been skating out in California for about a week with some fancy new doctor. No word on how he's doing, whether his symptoms are gone and when he might be able to return.

The Flames have loaned goalie prospect Joni Ortio to TPS in the SM-Liiga. He had only seen action in nine games for the Flames farm team in Abbotsford, so they surely wanted to get him playing more.
