Friday's Daily Dosage - Alfredsson, Rask, WJCs...
Pretty sure if didn't matter but Daniel Alfredsson has actually been playing like he deserves the ASG start with 6+9=15 & plus-7 over his last 10 games.
Jonathan Quick is 6-0-2 over his last eight games but he's taking it up a level with two shutouts and just two goals allowed over his last four games following last night's 22 save shutout.
Tuukka Rask with the 25 save shutout and he's a rather incredible 7-1-1, 0.82 (!) & .972 (!!) over his last nine games... wowzers!!!
Scott Hartnell with two points & seven shots last night and he has points in seven straight (3+7=10 & 26 PIMs). This guy has been dynamite this year, one of the top all-round performers as he's on pace for 80 points to go along with 135 PIMs & 200+ shots.
Yesterday at the WJCs... final day for the tourney and Canada takes the bronze while Russia-Sweden played scoreless through 70 minutes before Mika Zibanejad scored to give the Swedes the gold. Russian goalie Andrei Makarov made 57 saves, so let's give him a little love. Evgeny Kuznetsov was named top forward & MVP and led the tourney in scoring while only picking up points in two of seven games... that has to be some sort of record.
Matt Read jumped up to the top line with Giroux & Hartnell last night and had an assist & six shots in 21 minutes of action.
What the hell happened to my boy Dmitry Kulikov??? 20 points in his first 27 games and now zilch in his last 12.
Jonas Gustavsson with a 24 save shutout last night as he started back-to-back games for the first time since Reimer returned from injury.
Mikhail Grabovski is starting to heat up with 4+4=8 over his last six games.
Phil Kessel has goals in three straight and a point in seven straight (4+3=7).
Craig Anderson was snubbed by his own fans as they didn't vote him into the ASG but he's putting on a show for them regardless by stopping 35 of 36 last night and is 6-1-1, 2.06 & .930 over his last eight. He's probably a guy you could get relatively cheap right now and he's been pretty valuable in a lot of leagues this year.
Kyle Turris picked up his first goal with the Sens and now has 1+5=6 & plus-6 in eight games with his new team.
The Sharks Jason Demers with a pair of assists last night and he has four over his last five games.
David Krejci stretched his point streak to seven games with 1+2=3 last night... that gives him 4+7=11 while streaking.
Tyler Seguin cooled off for a while in December but he's hot again with 3+7=10 over his last seven games.
This is only for you really deep leaguers... after 3A last night Benoit Pouliot has 3+5=8 over his last nine games.
Andrew Shaw with a nice NHL debut for the Hawks as he scored and dropped the mitts as well. This kid is a real pest who has been surprisingly productive in his rookie pro season with 12+9=21 & 80 PIMs in 33 AHL games.
Another Hawks rookie making an instant impact is Jimmy Hayes as he has goals in back-to-back games. He has yet to see more than eight minutes in a game but more luck like this and that could change.
Not the best night for Chris Butler.... he was minus a (converted) touchdown against Boston.
Patrice Cormier is up from the AHL while Andrew Gordon is on his way down after being waived by the Ducks.

been wondering about Kulikov myself
but watching the game last against the Rangers and though he got nothing in the score sheet I thought he looked good.
Despite the Panthers decent run this season they are really out manned by the better clubs.
The score of that game could easily have been 5-1 Rangers instead of 3-2
Has Anderson turned the corner finally this season?
I hope so as Reimer (looking very much like a first half Anderson, without the wins) hasn’t done me any favors lately.
Thank you Tuukka

Thanks for the FLA observations, haven’t seen them play latley.
Lots of interesting story lines involving goalies lately.

3 Stars of the WJCs
anyone who tracked the WJCs closely…who are your 3 stars?
what Cam wrote above suggests he may not have named Kuznetsov as MVP…
yeah, let’s hear what people think. I’ll do up a little summary of who I liked on the weekend.

Uh, Jamie Benn's O.K. recently
Goal and an assist last night follows up his 3 pointer on tuesday (also not mentioned here just sayin ;-) and now has 15 points (4g 11a + 4) in his last 10. The guy has been real solid for mid-late round or cheap auction draftee. He’s become a more well rounded M. Koivu when you add the LW eligibility, the 41 Pims, 112 shots and 77 hits to his 11 goals and 28 assists.

agreed
as much as I hate the Stars, Jamie Benn is impressive in how hard he works, don’t watch the Stars much, unless they are playing the Wings (fan) or Blues (fantasy team forced fandom), but Benn is certainly one I would love on my team.

true, I’ve been laying off Benn lately… need to rectify that.

Halak (playing in 3 of the Blues last 4 games BTW)
let in three last night early but stayed in the game and the Blues pulled out the win. Prior to last night, he’s gone 5-0-3 in his last 8 with a 1.45 gaa and a .945 save %. Additionally, in the 15 games since his miserable October, he’s allowed 2 or fewer goals 11 times. in the other 4 games he’s had 1 with 4 and 3 with 3 goals against. Finally, a little bit of order being restored to the world for the patient Halak owner.

thanks for update, hadn’t realized Halak had been that good.

while the numbers are true
he has not looked as good as the numbers in reality
the Oilers could easily have won that game last night and it would have been all on Halak
the D was constantly clearing his mishandled saves and more than 1 puck got thru him and just missed
also the 3 starts have been against Edmonton minus RNH, Phoenix and Nashville not exactly high caliber offense
I would temper your expectations of Halak as Elliott has still been better.

Elliott's last 8 games
4-4 with a 2.27 gaa .920 save % and allowed 3 or more in 4 out 8 games albeit against much harder competition.

I thought I was done
but I can’t resist
allowed 3 or more in 4 out 8
had to go all the way back to a game against the Blackhawks Dec 3 to find a game he allowed more than 3 to justify the or more statement.
It would be more accurate to state that Elliott has allowed more than 2 goals only 4 times (twice to the mighty Red Wings) in 19 starts
more than 3 goals once (4 vs the potent Blackhawks)
albeit against much harder competition.
I acknowledge your caveat
though I would say much, much harder
@Colorado where the Av’s had won 7 straight
@DET twice and once at home, he was the only Blue to show up for the latest one in the D which the Wings just shut them down completely.
Rangers, Sharks, Blackhawks and @Phoenix to round out Dec.
all at a time when the offense couldn’t score more than 3 goals (4 against the Rangers but it was an empty netter)
The only starts Halak won in Dec were games in which they scored 4 or more and they needed all of them to get the wins because Halak wasn’t good.
The only difference I saw was that the Blues skaters were better covering his ass last night
I admit I didn’t see the 2 previous vs Phoenix and Nashville (both teams are extremely boring) but the number of shots Halak faced (35 & 34) would indicate that he was likely on his game
not knowing the actual number of scoring chances though I have my doubts
