Friday's Injury Updates - Vanek, Howard, Cleary, Backstrom

Thomas Vanek practiced yesterday and it sounds like he'll be returning tonight. Very good news for the Sabres and his owners.

In not so good news, Nicklas Backstrom was quoted as saying that he hopes to be ready for the playoffs. That doesn't sound good for the people of fantasy land. If you need an IR spot that he's currently taking up, it's probably safe to make the drop.

Mike Green was on the ice again yesterday and blah, blah, blah. We've heard this before. Wake me up when he gets into a game.

The timetable for Jimmy Howard (finger) is now 7-10 days. That's a whole lot better than 4-6 weeks.

Danny Cleary will miss the next two games with a knee injury.

Tyler Kennedy will miss 4-6 weeks due to a high ankle sprain.

Adam Larsson missed the game last night with a bruised back but it doesn't sound too serious. He shouldn't miss too many more games, if any.

Travis Zajac is out at least another month with his achilles and it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see him on the ice again this season.

Ryan Johansen had been getting scratched due to illness but apparently he's healthy now and still being scratched. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Jason Arnott (shoulder) missed the Blues game last night.

Ilya Bryzgalov is still sick so he did not start last night.

Jonathan Quick was pulled after allowing only two goals so some people were thinking it was due to injury. After the game it was said to be the coach's decision to pull him so apparently he's fine.

Returning to action last night: Mikko Koivu, Milan Jurcina

Disturbing words from Backstrom and you never know with concussions but I’d hold on for a bit since he could just be pessimistic and what he said was translated from Swedish.

Columbus and Phoenix’s handling of prospects is disturbing.

Danny Cleary

he used to be listed as Daniel Cleary it still seems strange seeing Danny
he’s had some issues with the knee for a while now, in a worst case scenario, who would you look to as a short or long term replacement.

On the Red Wings or for your fantasy team?

was just wondering if Mursak might be ready to step up
hasn’t been getting very good minutes yet, but I like him.

Apparently he was playing on the 3rd line with no PP time? Heck, I could replace him in that case.

Quick

Quick is so good that even allowing only 2 goals is cause for alarm?
Wow.

I know…and they’ll probably go right back to him in net next game anyway.

looking for a 3rd goalie

was thinking one of these 3. McDonald, Hedberg, Bob. pts only, 2 W and 2 SO for goalies. 2 are sitting not bad for injuries from their team mates, Bob would give me flyers tandom. Thinking Hed berg, ankle injuries are not good for goalies. Any 2 cents would help.

I’d take Bobrovsky… mostly cause I don’t trust Bryzgalov.

Agreed, though I really don’t like any of those choices. Bob is just the best of the worst.

MacDonald if only W and SO count. I see him winning more simply because the Wings are the Wings and home for 5 straight

J-Mac for the next week then reevaluate.

I would assume both Bobs and Hedberg will still be available then.
