Closing in on a championship.
Hi guys. I'm in a deep, points-only keeper league with a cap. I'm in first place (and have been since early-November), but I want another take on whether what I have is strong enough to take me to the finish line.
D-men: Lidstrom, Meszaros, Quincey, Moore (CBJ), Kulikov, Hamonic, Flood (WPG)
Goalies: Howard, Vokoun, Budaj, Holtby
Obviously, my forwards and my goalies are my strengths. I have depth at forward (usually I have guys like Kunitz, Booth and sometimes even Pleks or Cole on the bench), but is it worth sacrificing that depth to get a little stronger on the blueline?
Who should I be looking at as targets for trades? I tried going after Boyle not long ago (his owner is well down the standings), but he was only interested in draft picks. I'm not really interested in giving up more of mine (I'm already down one).
One last question - should I try and turn Vokoun into something younger, or leave him be? Thanks!

My concerns
I like your team even though to say that your blue line is shallow is an understatement.
My BIG concern is injury. Spezza, Booth, Michalek and even Cole are injury-prone players.
So, if I was you, depending on where my competition is, I would try to move one of my injury-prone players for a durable 40+ pts defenseman immediately.
Next move would be to try to package Spezza and Vokoun to get a younger but not fully proven goalie with some potential (Varlamov, Reimer, Pavelec to name a few) and a solid quality center. However, I would wait after the season to do this move.
ciao
How could you have John Moore and Mark Flood rostered and not need an upgrade on the blueline
apparently you are in a giant 40 team league
Flood and J Moore aren’t even taken in my 16 team league and we have huge rosters rolling 8 d-men per day.
Definitely if you are regularly leaving points on the bench, while rolling with this blueline then you should do whatever you need to become better balanced
without intimate knowledge of league, it’s impossible to say how to go about it.
I would probably target a few top 20 guys and try to use a career year guy like Michalek to get it done

Fair enough.
We only play 5 d-men, so usually Flood and Moore are on the bench for me. Thanks for the advice!
Yes, I’d definitely look at moving a forward or two for some help on D, especially with your injuries.
I’d shop around guys like Kunitz, Michalek, Booth & Okposo.
Dmen trade targets (guys I think are a little undervalued): Streit, Burns, Goligoski, Subban, Franson, Wisniewski, Ehrhoff & Petry.
I wouldn’t tinker with your goaltending, keep Vokoun, especially since you don’t have a strong #3.

20-team league...
…so pretty much no one has a strong #3. In fact, I’m pretty lucky to have two guys that are outright starters on their clubs!
Thanks though – especially for the trade targets. That’s helpful!
Agree w/ Cam
on your Gs and on D-men trade targets/Fs to offer — although I wouldn’t want to give up much for Franson or Petry they would upgrade Moore and Flood.
some other D targets (who tend to be undervalued):
Suter, IWhite, Visnovsky, and Wideman
