Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

Wednesday's Daily Dosage - Carter, Niemi, Downie...

Is Jeff Carter finally coming around or is he just motivated to get a ticket out of Ohio?... a hat-trick on six shots last night and he has 5+3=8 & 35 shots over his last nine games.

Giving up three goals on 11 shots (against the CBJs) and getting pulled in the 1st period may be rock bottom for Antti Niemi but he's been on a downward slope for a while going 5-7-2, 2.93 & .898 over his last 15 games.

2A last night for Derek Roy to extend his point streak to four games (2+5=7). Lining up with Jason Pominville lately has been the catalyst for him, much better than playing with stiffs like Stafford & Leino, as Pommer has 6+8=14 & 31 shots over his last nine games.

Interesting 3-way trade yesterday as the Avs added Steve Downie while Kyle Quincey ended up with Detroit (via Tampa). Not sure I like this trade from a fantasy perspective for the parties involved. Whoever Downie plays with in Colorado, it's a downgrade from lining up with Stamkos. Sure he may see more ice-time (15:30/gm this year) and quality PP opps but I think he'll be in tough to find a better situation than he had in Tampa. I think this move downright blows for Quincey as he goes from playing 22 minutes a night & on the PP to the 3rd pairing for Detroit. Maybe next year, if Brad Stuart moves on, he'll be thankful for the move but I think this really hurts his fantasy value for this season. As for residual impact, hopefully this means more quality ice-time for Brett Connolly in Tampa so we can see what he can do and Stefan Elliott has been recalled by the Avs and should see decent PP minutes going forward.

Star-divide

Dustin Byfuglien has been a monster lately with multi-point efforts in five of the last seven games (3+8=11 & 26 shots).

Things had been quiet for a few games but you knew Sam Gagner had a few aftershocks in him... 1+2=3, plus-3 & six shots last night. He has value as long as he sticks with Hall & Eberle.

Bobby Ryan may be slowly thawing out as he has 2+4=6 over his last six games. I took him late in the 1st round of a league this year, so this guy owes me.

A goal and seven PIMs last night for David Clarkson and the kid has busted through his ceiling with 23 goals so far on the back of 7+4=11 & 41 shots over his last 11 games.

Radim Vrbata has done less streaking this year or maybe it's just that his hot streaks are longer as had 2+1=3 last night and has 8+6=14, plus-8 & 36 shots with points in 10 of his last 11.

Five assists in a game last week but it seems that Claude Giroux was getting bored of playing setup man as he put 10 shots on goal last night and finished with 1+1=2. G, Stammer & Geno are starting to pull away from the field so it looks like we'll have a three horse race for the Art Ross.

Wayne Simmonds has at least a goal in seven of his last 10 games (9+3=12).

My boy Logan Couture has points in 12 of his last 14 for a hefty 9+10=19 during the span. He is running away with the team lead in goals and might end up leading them in points as well.

Jonas Gustavsson was just horrid last night, ECHL-level goaltending, as he was beaten four times on 32 shots. He is 0-2-2, 3.68 & .881 over his last six outings.

Pierre McGuire thinks Jimmy Hayes could become unstoppable. He did play well last night (1+1=2, plus-2 & three shots in 12 minutes) but methinks Pierre is jumping the gun once again. Let's see him do it consistently over an extended stretch before wetting our pants over this guy.

Trio of points for Teddy Purcell and he has one or more in seven of his last eight games (2+9=11).

Ryan Ellis was a scratch last night for Nashville... he has Hal Gill to blame.

PHX has recalled David Rundblad, he has 6+4=10 in 15 AHL games so far but is an ugly minus-10.

The Hurricanes have sent Mike Murphy back down, so they're confident that Cam Ward is ready to go.

The folks at F911 are not up to date. The line combos were changed again last night
Smyth (1g 1a) / Gagner (1g 2a) / Eberle 1g 2a)
Hall (1g 1a) / Horcoff (1a) / Hemsky (1g) The Triple H Line?
Leaving Paajarvi, once again to line up with Belanger / Eager
Undoubtedly Renney will believe he is a genius because the Oilers, rather handily, defeated a lackluster Flames team.
I can expect nothing from Paajarvi once again.
Smyth (only one birthday per year) will disappear for another 10-20 games, leaving Gagner and Eberle (1g 2a) much less useful.
The Hall and Hemsky combo looked solid, though Horcoff really added nothing to it.

yeah didn’t check the lines from last night, just assumed he was still with Eberle & Hall. Should have said that as long as he stick with Eberle, he has value… cause that’s the real truth.

Quincey

the trade actually helps me more than hurts because I own Ryan Ellis and Stefan Elliott
with Hal Gill taking time away from Ellis it’s nice to get Elliott back.
I don’t think it hurts Quincey much if at all
First he is on the Wings and that is good, even Kindl who gets the least time has 11 points 1 on PP.
He will still get adequate ice time near 20min and PP time albeit mostly on the 2nd unit but the Wings now have a guy who can spell any of the D-men down the stretch it wouldn’t surprise me to see him skating in all pairings as they get ready for the playoffs

I don’t know, Quincey had been sliding recently anyway… just three points in his last 19 games and while he may get a bump due to joining a powerhouse squad, I’m not really convinced that his value doesn’t take a big hit.

as you say, he has very little in the way of production over the last couple months with a terrible Av’s club.
after throwing 32 SOG over the previous 30 days he has zero assists, meanwhile J Ericsson and J Kindl have each put 15 SOG and gotten 2 assists.
this tells me that the Wings are much more adept at getting to the right areas of the ice to capitalize on rebounds than Colorado, which can only benefit a player like Quincey.
The only thing I worry about with him is his tendency to pick up the bad penalty once in a while, this Babcock will not like.
I am wrong once in a great while but I am pretty confident in this.
if someone believes as Cam does in your league, and you can pick him up cheap do it.

I could certainly be wrong as well but I’m not too concerned about getting burned by Quincey down the stretch… I think the potential is pretty minimal.

forgot why I logged in before

Saw Antoine Vermette has been moved to Phoenix.
while a bit erratic, he is a gifted playmaker and good on the power play.
this may, or may not, boost some of the numbers for Whitney, Doan, Yandle, Korpikoski, OEL.

I don’t see it helping Vrbata however.
he has already done more than anyone dreamed he could.

I think it is a positive for Phoenix in general.

I agree. I think Vermette could be a 60 point guy in the right situation… although I’m not sure Phoenix is it, it’s still better than Columbus.

Trade offer

In lieu of a fan post. Yahoo! standard H2H (winners league) and currently 7th. My goalies pretty much suck w/ Niemi, Pavs, Reimer, and now Dubnyck. I offered Hossa and Reimer for Miller. He countered with Whitney (PHO) and Miller for my Hossa and Pavelec. I don’t have much to loose and just need a goalie who’s not getting pasted every night. Miller has been pretty good recently and I think I can afford to give up Hossa – getting Whitney back (he’d be my 3LW) makes it hurt a little less. I’m not gonna make up the ground I need without some competent goaltending. Do it, right?

I would think so
if you can afford to lose Hossa, replacing him with Whitney isn’t bad, I don’t believe with the Goalies you have, that you have much choice.
Miller is certainly playing more like himself and there is no reason to believe he won’t continue to do so.
I would also expect a turnaround from Niemi so if you can get to playoffs that should be a pretty decent 1-2
After last nights disaster Monster vs the Devils, Reimer will get another shot and while I don’t think there is much hope I think I would still prefer him to Pavelec anyway.

I’m not sure… is Miller a bigger upgrade on Pavelec than Hossa v Whitney?

While Whitney is good, he’s really only going to give you A & PPPs. It’s definitely a gamble but I’d probably take my chances that Pavelec heats up.

Still have MSL and Selanne as RW as well as Kovie, Gagne, Carter, and Michalek who can play RW too. Needles to say, I can spare a RW. Pavelec’s home/away split stats are 2.19/.925% and 3.32/.897% so I can only really start him at home. Possibly a bit of an overpaymen,t but goalies aint cheap and Hossa’s been slippin’ recently and Toews is down for a bit too.

Miller since Christmas break (W) 7 (GAA) 1.85 (SV%) .935 (SHO) 2
Pavalec same time period (W) 6 (GAA) 2.59 (SV%) .917 (SHO) 0

Miller has a track record of consistency
Buffalo still has superior personnel when compared to Winnipeg
Pavelec has never shown that he can be consistent
Winnipeg while it feeds on the home excitement is still a young team with little experience in a tight playoff run

even should Buffalo find itself out of the playoffs this team has something to prove to a new owner and fan base that expected much from them, when the pressure is off I expect they will be even more dangerous to play against.

Alright, sounds like you have good coverage up front, so Hossa isn’t a huge loss, so give Miller a shot… you guys convinced me.

I don’t really like the deal as Miller is no sure thing himself but looks like your hands are kinda tied with those goalies.

I’d roll the dice and make the deal.

Also being in the 7th spot, nobody ahead of me would likely be willing to make a fair trade w/ me, and of those behind only a few are active and/or have a good goalie. This, it would appear, is my best/only option. Now pending…
