February Fantasy Hockey Rankings: Defencemen
Letang Returns; Doughty, Pietrangelo, and Streit Heat Up
The big movers this month, at least in the top portion of the rankings, are: Kris Letang (returning from injury), and Mark Streit and Alex Pietrangelo (who turned in their strongest months to date). Jake Gardiner, who has appeared on/off the rankings this season, is back on again--and makes the biggest jump among the unranked to grab a spot at #48.
This will be the final month for in-season rankings as next month we'll only have a few weeks left in the regular season schedule. We hope these rankings help you negotiate deals ahead of the trade deadline. Remember: If you're not in 1st place any deal that doesn't get done only helps the #1 team stay ahead of the pack.

Ryan Whitney
Great upside with Whitney. He should be ranked somewhere in the 30s.
Apologies on not including him straight up.

Has Bogosian dropped due to Byfuglien’s return? Otherwise things seem to be trending up for him:
First 20 games: 0+5=5
Last 30 games: 3+12=15 (although just one point in his last eight)

Yes. Most of the year, either Enstrom or Buff (or both) were out.
Now, they are both back.
And Bogo hasn’t done much over the last 2-3 weeks.
His semi-productive time was mostly due to increased opps when the Big 2 were out.

Ryan Ellis
maybe it’s just me, :-(
I wouldn’t trade him for 1/2 of these guys
Kulikov and Green – injured
Stefan Elliott – demoted
my top rated D is Quincey.
this column has made me sad, thank you Dio.

Sorry about that MoP.
I like Ellis a lot. Just not that much for this year.
Similar to Bogo, Suter is back and he and Weber are getting all the prime minutes.
And Ellis hasn’t been very productive — 3 assists in his last 12 games, low SOGs, just 1 PPP, etc.

#39 Keith Seabrook
Is he a hybrid of Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook? Wow, that guy must be a monster! :P

Timonen
Both Timonen and Campbell are tremendously undervalued in the above rankings. Both are tops in the league in D scoring and represent the best PP QB on their respective teams. Not surprisingly your bias has carried over to these rankings. If you could give me one valid reason that explain Subban and Burns being ranked higher I would be amazed.
agree on Timo
there are a lot of people still holding on to the Burns they thought they would get.
Subban – I got nothing but disdain.

Timonen and Campbell
yeah, Timo is good value for sure. all the guys in the Top 29-30 are quality. pretty close in that tier. discrete bump down after that.
i’d rather have the guys immediately ahead of him: Yandle, Shattenkirk, Subban, and Enstrom. Campbell…maybe not.
Molando was was critical last month too when I bumped Campbell down, but it was the right move.
Over the last 30 days, Soup has posted these anemic #s: 0 goals, 4 assists, 0 PIMs, little more than 1 shot/game, and a -9 rating.
SBN Fantasy Hockey Blog: Fantasy Hockey Scouts
my response was for Timo over Burns, I have no faith in him this year
I said no Soup for you 2 months ago
Subban I dislike for the same reason as I loathe Marchand
they just won’t ever find their way onto my roster regardless.

Yeah, should have replied directly to Molando…
Agree that Burns has disappointed, however, he was actually quite good last month — ranking 9th among D-men in this scoring format over that timeframe.
SBN Fantasy Hockey Blog: Fantasy Hockey Scouts
Fair enough. I understand based on Soup’s last month why you’d be sour on him. But I hope you don’t take my comments in a negative light. Just adding personal opinion and love hearing your reasons for ranking certain players where they are. Keep up the good work!
No worries. I appreciate the feedback. It does help to talk it out.

Amongst Dmen, PK is 6th in the league in PIMs & 8th in shots.
