Fantasy Stars of the Week - Week #22

The biggest and brightest from the past week in Fantasy Land, as voted by FHS writers.

Three Stars of the Week:

3rd Star, from the Nashville Predators, numero 10, Martin Erat...2+5=7, plus-3, two PPP, and two PIM. The Preds played all four games on the road this week and Erat contributed in each. He's been threatening to get on this list with his recent stellar play (10+23=33, plus-16 over his last 32 games) so this is well deserved. FHS Votes: 1 second, 2 thirds.

2nd Star, from the Phoenix Coyotes, numero 23, Oliver Ekman-Larsson... in four games, OEL posted 3+2=5, two PPP, and 13 shots. Big week for the kid and good for him as he'd been ice cold with only 3 points in the 19 games prior to this week. Still, averaging almost 20 minutes TOI/G is pretty damn impressive for guy who's not even old enough to buy a beer in Phoenix. FHS Votes 1 first, 2 seconds, 1 third.

1st Star, from the Philadelphia Flyers, numero 30, Ilya Bryzgalov... after winning seven straight, he shook off an OT loss to beat the Penguins, a team who came into that game on an 11 game winning streak. Nicely done, Bryz....he was first star last week too and it seems the spotlight agrees with him. FHS Votes: 3 firsts.

Honorable mention: Tyler Ennis (3GP, 3+3=6, plus-6) and a bunch of goalies (Corey Crawford, Antti Niemi, Jose Theodore, Semyon Varlamov) who all finished 3-0.

Rookie Star of the Week: Carl Hagelin with 3+2=5, plus-3, two PIM, and 10 shots. If you brought his name up coming into this season as a Calder candidate, you'd be considered a nut. Suddenly you can't talk Calder without mentioning the young Swede.

HM: Jaden Schwartz (scored a PPG in his first NHL game and looked and looked good w/ Berglund and Langenbrunner)

Breakout Star of the Week: Sidney Crosby. Nothing in yesterday's game but he still finishes with five assists, plus-4 and ten shots this week and the Penguins are looking close to unstoppable.

HM: Tyler Ennis (see above)

Breakdown of the Week: Milan Lucic with minus-4 and no points or PIM through three games. He'd been a hot player prior to this week with nine points over his previous seven games.

DHM: Tim Thomas (1-2, 4.18 GAA, .841 SV%)

Free Agent Star of the Week (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! leagues): Martin Erat (see above) at just 34% owned, and let's throw OEL in te mix too as he's only 22% owned.

FHS: Thursday Night Live! Stars of the Week: congratulations to Joshhh and Johnny Laan, as they finished in a first place tie last Thursday. HIgh drama here, as Joshhh is the first to win consecutive weeks and he had this thing sewn up until Ryan Clower scored the shootout winner in the final game of the night, giving Johnny Laan the extra point he needed for the first place tie. Nice going gentlemen.
