Three more games on tap for last night, season openers for 5 of the teams and 1 returning winner from Tuesday nights action
Toronto Maple Leafs spoiled their second home opener in as many nights behind a stellar performance from Jonathan Bernier who stopped 31 of the 32 Flyer shots against.
Dave Bolland scored twice, a GWG and a PPG to ice it.
Phil Kessel begins his assault on the Rocket Richard race while initiating the first points streak of the season with 1 G on 6 shots
Joffrey Lupul with a pair of assists one of the PP variety and 5 PIM
Brayden Schenn 1 PPG and a 5 for Fighting made it a productive night for Schenn owners.
Vincent Lecavalier and Mark Streit making their Flyers debut tallied the PPA's
In Detroit, The Red Wings were strong in puck possession against a rather poor effort from the visiting Buffalo Sabres, poor except for a very strong performance by Ryan Miller who stopped 32 of the 34 shots fired at him in the losing effort.
Mikael Samuelsson started the scoring with a goal on a neat deflection that Miller had no chance on.
Pavel Datsyuk with a goal 36 seconds later made it 2-0 doing what he does, through magic and wizardry.
Jimmy Howard gets the win stopping 19 of 20, but wasn't really tested much in this contest, which may have led to him inadvertently assisting on the lone goal against.
Zemgus Girgensons took a bank off Brian Flynn on the attempted clear by Howard, popping it into a nearly empty net.
I didn't see much of Colorado's home opener, what I did see was most of the 2nd period.Superlatives like outstanding were being tossed about by the broadcast team in reference to the man in goal...
Semyon Varlamov, stopping 35 of 36 shots against, the praise seems well founded he made some spectacular saves as well as the ones he should have, missing a shut out by 7 seconds.
Jakob Silfverberg scored The Ducks lone goal in his Anaheim debut.
the Avalanche offense produced 5 multi point performers in the 6-1 victory
Nathan MacKinnon in his NHL debut had a pair of assists, the one I saw his first of the night was a very slick feed from the end boards setting up Jamie McGinn who potted a pair of goals
Alex Tanguay was being himself picking up 3 assists (2 of the PPA variety) while recording zero shots
Ryan O'Reilly with a goal and an assist on 6 SOG
I like Steve Downie's Gordie Howe Hat Trick as the line of the night with a GW/PPG+PPA+5PIM's with 4 SOG
I mostly watched the Red Wings / Sabres game, I'd like to say I was encouraged by what I saw on the ice, however there was still a very real lack of finish for as much as Detroit dominated play on both ends.
The lone bright spot for Buffalo was Ryan Miller who seems to want that Olympic gig after all.
if i left out anyone that you think deserves mention, or looked good to you let me know in the comments.
