A fantasized look at NHL action from Tuesday night

A busy night with 10 games in the books so I will do my best to let you know what you might have missed. Some things I will miss so be sure to let me know in the comments below. For those looking for my 2 Minutes for Tweeting segment, it will be making its debut on it's own, no longer part of my Daily Dosage going forward so stay tuned for that. Don't panic!!

St. Louis 4 vs Buffalo 1

Brenden Morrow with two goals on just 14 minutes TOI. His most TOI this year is just over 16 minutes and is seeing L2 duties but with minimal PP time. So don't get too excited.

Jay Bouwmeester with 1A to give him one goal and five assists in his last 5 games.

Chris Stewart had 2A and he now has 1G and 3A in his past 4 games. He was also a +2 while adding 2PIM, 2SOG and 3 Hits.

A rare game where Alex Steen was held off the scoresheet, although he did register 6SOG

Vladimir Tarasenko with a goal last night to give him seven on the year and 11 points in 20 games. He registered 4SOG on nearly 14 minutes TOI. I wonder how much better Tarasenko would do if he wasn't stuck in the Hitchcock system...

Tyler Ennis with the only goal for the Sabres and he has now scored in B2B games. Ennis also added +1, 4PIM, 3SOG and 3 Hits.

Ryan Miller coming into this game had a .928SV% over his past five starts, including three 40+ save performances. He stopped 27-31 in the loss so it was not a good night for him...or for most of the Sabres on this night.

NY Islanders 2 vs Toronto 5

Casey Cizikas has goals in 3 straight games now after scoring last night and nearly had another before ringing it off the post. He had six goals in 45 games last year so temper your expectations as he is playing on L4 while averaging under 14 minutes TOI per game...but he might be a nice short term pickup while he is running hot.

Frans Nielsen scored his first goal since November 9th giving him 10 goals on the year in 22 games. His career high is 17 goals in 82 games a couple of seasons ago.

Mason Raymond now has three goals and two assists in four games after scoring last night.

JVR coming off a two goal performance Saturday picked up 1A

Phil Kessel with two goals on 4SOG which ends a 4 game goal slump for him.

Joffrey Lupul ended a 3 game slump by picking up 3A last night

Trevor Smith is on a nice little streak. He extended his point streak to 3 games with 1G and 2A last night to give him 5 points in his last 3 games. His peripherals don't stand out but he is seeing ice time on L2 until Bozak returns this weekend.

Ottawa 2 vs Philadelphia 5

Craig Anderson has allowed 11 goals in three games since returning from a neck injury. So Robin Lehner got the call and allowed 4 goals on 41 shots against. That is the most goals against he has allowed in a game (second time this season) but he was busy in this game.

Bobby Ryan had four goals and 11 points in his past 9 games but came away with nothing here.

Clarke MacArthur ended his 3 game slump by potting 1G and 1A to give him 14 points in 20GP.

Claude Giroux came into the game with only six PPP, which put him on pace for 20 PPP over 82 games. He had 38 PPP two years ago. He scored a PP goal in this game while adding 4SOG. After a terrible start to the season, he is now up to 2G and 10A in 20GP and looks to be heating up. Kudos to those of you that were patient and hung onto him. It looks like the worst is over as he and the Flyers are getting on a bit of a roll with the Sabres on the menu next.

Kimmo Timonen taking a swig from the fountain of youth scored 1G and added 2A last night while adding +3, 5SOG, 2 Hits and 3BS. He now has 4 points in his last 2 games and sees the most PP time of all Flyers D.

Steve Mason stopped 32-34 and is now 3-0-2 in his past five starts and has allowed two goals or fewer in all of them. He now sports a 2.12GAA and .906SV%. Let that sink in for a minute...Steve Mason people. The former Rookie of the Year. Is he back?

Flyers now have a season high five straight games with a PP goal.

Minnesota 2 vs Montreal 6

Josh Harding was 9-0-2 over the past 11 games but he finally met his match, his cryptonite, Max Pacioretty and the Montreal Canadiens who chased him after 3 goals on 19 shots. I wouldn't worry Harding owners. I'm sure it was just an off night for him. But hey, at least they are not in the same division just incase!

Zach Parise had four goals and nine points in the past eight games but was held pointless in this one on 5SOG.

I also wanted to mention Nino Niederreiter who scored 1G last night on 4SOG, including adding 3 Hits in a losing effort. He now has 4G, 8A, +6, 14PIM and 48SOG in 22 games this year. His TOI is around 13 minutes per game while playing L4 duties so it is good to see the Wild giving him a chance whereas he was being buried with the Islanders.

Max Pacioretty with a natural hat trick, chasing Harding in the process. He fired an impressive 10SOG as well. All this after nearly being taken out by the stanchion again. A scary moment that he was able to shake off only to come back and pull out a hatty. Coming into the game last night he had only 2G in 12GP so let's see if this is the start of something for him.

Alex Galchenyuk has three goals, five points, a +2 rating and 16 shots in the past four games after scoring in this game.

Brendan Gallagher notched 2A ending his mini 2 game slump. He was also a +2 while adding 2PIM, 2SOG, 1Hit and 1BS

Nashville 2 vs Detroit 0

ZZzzzZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....ok, I have to admit I didn't see this game but the box scores are telling me it was a snoozer...Let me know otherwise!

Marek Mazanec stopped all 27 shots he faced for his first career shutout. He has now posted B2B wins against some legit competition in Chicago and now Detroit, allowing just 2 goals. I can see Nashville riding him as long as he stays hot so he might be worth an add if you are desperate for help in goal.

Shea Weber with a goal now in B2B games after scoring one last night on the PP. That's now 4 points in his past 4 games, with 3 of 4 of them coming on the PP.

Justin Abdelkader with no points in 7 games now as he has been relegated to L4 duties while seeing 12 minutes of ice time. I hope none of you drafted him high when he was playing on the top line in the pre-season....

Boston 2 vs NY Rangers 1

Tuukka Rask with another elite outing stopping 43 of 44 for the win. Give him 12 wins, 1.61GAA and .946SV% in 18 games. Elite.

This was a gritty win for the Bruins as they got goals from some unlikely sources in Shawn Thornton and Daniel Paille.

Bruins had killed 32 straight powerplays until this game allowing one PP goal on six short handed kills...for what it's worth.

Rangers have played back to back 1-0 games and with Rick Nash returning to action since being out since October 8th with a concussion, they were hoping to start lighting the lamp again. Well, that didn't happen as only Derick Brassard was able to score one here, his first in 6 games.

The Rangers have now only scored 43 goals 21 games into the season

Chicago 1 vs Colorado 5

Patrick Kane has a point in eight straight games after adding an assist in this game and 3SOG

Corey Crawford got chased after allowing 3 goals on 7 shots against. He was replaced by Antti Raanta who was seeing his first NHL action of his career and went 14-16 the rest of the way. Crawford in 20GP now has a 2.55GAA and .905SV%. He was one goaltender I singled out would be affected by the pad reduction rules. He still get's you the wins but his peripherals aren't the greatest. Like I said at the beginning of the year, let's take a look at his numbers in December/January and compare to previous seasons.

Ryan O'Reilly has five goals and three assists in the past eight games now after adding an assist in this game.

Nathan MacKinnon replaced Matt Duchene between Gabriel Landeskog and Ryan O'Reilly and was pointless while registering 4SOG, 1Hit and 1BS.

Gabriel Landeskog had 1G to go with +1, 3SOG, 3 Hits and 1BS.

Maxime Talbot with 2A, his first points in an Avs jersey while playing on L3.

It seems everytime I check out the scores for Avs games, I have been seeing Paul Stastny's name on there. He had 1G and 1A last night. So checking over his numbers, his longest pointless streak was just 2 games and has 8G and 9A in 20GP and a +17 rating. Not too shabby.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 36-37 to end a 3 game losing streak. His external troubles have gone quiet for now but it is not over. If I am a Varly owner (which I am) that is still in the back of my mind and I will be interested to see how this pans out and if/how it will affect him. For now, let's hope this is the beginning of another hot streak.

Columbus 0 vs Edmonton 7

Ilya Bryzgalov did not get to face his former Philadelphia Flyer teammate in Sergei Bobrovsky as he got to sit this one out while Dubnyk got the nod. And I am guessing that Bobrovsky probably wished he was on the bench to start this one as well as he and his team got destroyed last night in Edmonton.

I'll mention Nikita Nikitin who was recently in rumours with Edmonton. He finished a -2 with 2PIM, 1SOG, 6 Hits and 2BS.

Devan Dubnyk has allowed six goals in his past three games but only needed to stop 14 shots for the shutout in this one.

Jordan Eberle with 1G and 1A, +2, 3SOG and 1 Hit. He has a mini 2 game point streak going now after 2 games without a point.

David Perron with 2G and 2A, +2, 5SOG and 2 Hits. He now has 7G and 10A in 19GP. He also has 71SOG over that span.

Nail Yakupov with 1G and 1A and don't look now but he is on a 3 game point streak. His ice time is also up to over 16 minutes TOI the past 2 games.

Justin Schultz had 1G in his first game back since October 29th. He finished with just over 20 minutes TOI, +2, 2SOG, 1Hit and 2BS.

Ryan Smyth with 1G and 2A last night. He now has 4G and 4A for 8 points in 16GP this year. He had 13 points in 47GP all of last year.

Florida 3 vs Vancouver 2 (SO)

Scottie Upshall with 1A last night also added 5SOG and 5 Hits. He now has 5 points in his past 4 games.

Brad Boyes with 1G on 3SOG and 1 Hit. He now has a goal in 3 of his last 4 games.

Tim Thomas with B2B wins now after stopping 27-29 and all 3 shootout attempts.

Chris Higgins ended a 4 game slump by potting a goal here, while adding +2, 2PIM, 3SOG and 2 Hits.

Daniel Sedin had no points after registering 5SOG. That is now 6 games without a point for D. Sedin and 7 games without a goal.

Roberto Luongo looked solid once again in a losing effort stopping 34-36. In 19GP he has a 2.33GAA and .914SV%

Tampa Bay 2 vs Los Angeles 5

Ben Bishop was pulled in his last start after giving up three goals on 14 shots and last night he was left in allowing 5 goals on 31 shots. That's B2B poor games for Bishop and we may see Lindback next game.

Congratulations to Martin St. Louis who played in his 1,000th game last night. He becomes just the 16th undrafted player to achieve this (since the universal draft began in 1969). He had 1A in the losing effort.

Valtteri Filppula had 1G on 2SOG. He has 4 points in his past 3 games.

Victor Hedman with 1G and 1A, his third multi-point game of the year.

Anze Kopitar, Justin Williams and Matt Frattin each had 1G and 1A in the game.

Dustin Brown scored a goal here, ending his 6 game slump. He was also a +3 while adding 3SOG and 7 Hits.

Slava Voynov with 1A has a nice streak going with points in 5 of his last 6 games.

Jake Muzzin didn't hit the scoresheet but he did help poolies in other categories. +1, 4PIM, 4SOG and 4 Hits.

Drew Doughty with 2A, +3, 3SOG and 2 Hits on the night.

Ben Scrivens stopped 19-21 for the win. Scrivens is now 4-0-0 in his last four starts with a 1.00GAA, .963SV% and two shutouts.
