A fantasized look at the NHL action from Monday night

I can't stop talking about Matt Frattin and why should I as he had another two points last night to give him 7+3=10 & plus-6 in 10 games on the season. His ice-time is starting to trend up and he has averaged over four mpg of PP time over the last two Leafs blowouts.

Slava Voynov has logged in excess of 23 minutes in each of his last four games and now has 1+3=4 & plus-7 to show for it after a pair of assists last night.

Cody Franson has a four game point streak going where he has 5A & plus-7. He is averaging 2:50/gm of PP time (vs 1:31 last year) but has just one PPP so far... so a little more production on the PP and Franson's numbers would be delightful.

Franson's partner, Mark Fraser, deserves mention as well as he was plus-5 with four hits & four blocks. He seems to have found a regular spot in the lineup, is a decent source of peripheral stats, especially PIMs & hits, and is now up to plus-11 on the season.

Line of the night to Eric Staal for his 1+1=2, plus-4, six shots & 13 FOWs. This extends his point streak to nine games where he has 8+6=14 & plus-10.

But the most dangerous hurricane last night was Hurricane Jiri... 2+2=4, all in the 3rd period, for Jiri Tlusty as he lined up with Staal & Semin on a lethal trio.

The odd man out in Carolina these days is Chad LaRose as after 19 goals & 199 shots in 67 games last season (16 mpg), he has just one goal & 18 shots so far this season (12 mpg).

Keaton Ellerby had an assist and was plus-2 during 20 minutes of ice-time in game #2 with LA. He's playing a bigger role with the Kings than he did with Florida, so far.

Shane Doan ended a seven game pointless drought with 2+1=3 last night including the OT winner.

We may have just witnessed the game of Kyle Chipchura's life as he assisted on both Doan goals, was plus-3, got into a scrap with Cody McLeod and won 75% of his draws. Time to sell high here.

Lubomir Visnovsky with a pair of PPA last night during 21 minutes of ice-time in his second game for the Islanders.

Guess what? We had a Rick DiPietro sighting last night, his second start of the season. This guy probably forgets how to play goal, he does it so infrequently, let alone remember how to stop the puck. He was beaten five times last night and the Islanders lost... who would have guessed that?

Here is one if you need some toughness... Matt Pelech has been converted to forward this season in the AHL and is up with the Sharks to enforce. He has been pretty consistent in that regard as he has six straight seasons with 100+ PIMs in the AHL and already has 177 in 34 games this year. He dropped the mitts with Jared Boll last night and also found time to dish out five hits.

The Flames snatched Joey MacDonald from the Red Wings via waivers. He hasn't played this year due to a bad back but has been serviceable as a injury replacement in Detroit over the past two years. We'll see if he gets a start while Kiprusoff is out and then see if he's given the #2 role over Irving once Kipper returns.

Demoted: Joseph Morrow.
