On Tuesday afternoon, general manager Jay Feaster announced that the 36-year-old goaltender had been diagnosed with a grade two MCL sprain, which is expected to keep him out for approximately 14 days.
The injury was originally sustained during the team's 4-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings last Tuesday. Kiprusoff experienced some discomfort and the team decided during the second intermission that the goaltender should leave the game.
Kiprusoff stated via an announcement on the team's website that he did not expect to miss much time while recovering. If Tuesday's projection is accurate, he will miss about three weeks worth of time.
goaltender Joey MacDonald off waivers via Detroit.
While some believe this claim marks the end of Leland's tenure in Calgary, Feaster stated on Tuesday that the backup job has yet to be determined and that the two goaltenders will have an opportunity to win the position.
