A fantasized look at the injury news on Friday morning
Some teams have all the luck... and then there is the 2013 Ottawa Senators as Craig Anderson had to be helped off the ice last night with an ankle injury. The Sens say he is day-to-day but last time I checked ankles were pretty essential for a goalie so I'm a little pessimistic that he'll be able to return in a jiff. He joins Karlsson & Spezza on the shelf in what is turning into a nightmare season in Ottawa. Assume this will mean Robin Lehner gets the call, we'll see if the Sens ride him while Anderson is out.
Kind of a freak accident as a falling Artem Anisimov toppled into Kyle Quincey causing Quincey to land on top of Anisimov and drive his head into the ice. Anisimov left on a stretcher and is likely out for a while with a head/neck injury. Quincey also didn't return to the game after the incident due to a leg injury.
The Flyers seem to be the kings of the injury-bomb as they downplay them at first and then "SURPRISE... he's out three months!". The latest victim was Matt Read as he left Wednesday's game early but then there was speculation that he could return Thursday... well turns out he has torn ribcage muscles (ouch) and is out for six weeks.
David Clarkson came into last night's game with a sore back but left it due to an apparent wrist injury. This guy has been so important to his fantasy owners this year, let's hope he can shake it off.
Jamie McBain sat out last night's game and he could be out for a few weeks with a UBI.
Late in the final game last night Taylor Hall threw a reckless open ice check on Cal Clutterbuck that resulted in Clutterbuck being carried off with what looked like a serious knee injury. Hall could be getting a Shanaban for that one.
I thought Jordan Leopold was a healthy scratch on Tuesday but now he is listed as being day-to-day with a UBI.
I should have known... never trust Johan Franzen to return on time. It sounded like he was ready to go last night but then the Wings held him out. He
could might probably won't return this weekend.
Everything is turning up aces for the Blackhawks as Marian Hossa (head) is feeling better and practiced yesterday. Brent Seabrook (LBI) and Corey Crawford (UBI) also took part in practice yesterday and should return tonight, although Crawford is expected to back up Emery.
