Robin Lehner is just one of three Senators to be featured this week. - Phillip MacCallum
Week 8: Free Agents and Trade Targets
Greetings GMs! And Happy St. Patrick's Day to all and sundry!
For those of you looking to get lucky on the wire, see if any of these lads brings you at least a wee pot of gold (if not, perhaps you'll score the bonus mushrooms in the picture above -- what's with that?!?):
Variously owned LWs worth adding (depending on the size of your league) or worth targeting via trade: Steve Ott 39%, Brandon Dubinsky 34%, Curtis Glencross 29%, Brandon Saad 12%, Gabriel Bourque 4%, Lars Eller 3%, Kyle Clifford 0.9%, Bryan Bickell 0.4%, Antoine Roussel 0.1%.
Back in a Top 6 role after missing 7 games due to a shoulder injury, Filppula has 3 points in 3 games (2 goals, 1 assist) to go along with 7 SOGs, 1 PPP, and 2 Blocks.
Availability: Owned in 36% of leagues.
Forecast: Playing with Zetterberg and Brunner at ES will be good for business for as long as it continues. He's not with them on PP1, although he is seeing time with the 2nd unit. For this late in the season, he's looking like the shiniest object on the wire by a goodly margin.
Variously owned Cs worth adding (depending on the size of your league) or worth targeting via trade: Patrik Berglund 89%, Adam Henrique 86% (featured last week), Martin Hanzal 45%, Tyler Bozak 25%, David Legwand 12%, Brandon Sutter 6%, Shawn Horcoff 3%, Matt Cullen 2% (to hear Cam chirping about this guy see today's DD), Zack Smith 0.9%, Ryan Johansen 0.8%, Shawn Matthias 0.7%, Jarret Stoll 0.3%, Marcel Goc 0.1%.
Turris won't do much for your peripherals, but over his last 4 games he's turned on the scoring with 6 points (4 goals, 2 assists), 11 SOGs, and 3 PPPs. Get 'em while their hot!
Availability: Owned in 59% of leagues.
Forecast: He's had different linemates, but most recently he's been with Alfie and Lats on L1 and PP1. Doesn't get better than that (right now) in Ottawa, so -- not to mix metaphoric holidays here -- but the turkey is on the table for Turris.
Variously owned RWs worth adding (depending on the size of your league) or worth targeting via trade: Brian Gionta 61% (featured last week), Brendan Gallagher 16%, Chris Neil 10%, Devin Setoguchi 8%, Beau Bennett 3%, Mika Zibanejad 0.4%.
Antro has been turbo. Although he just had his 5-game point streak snapped today (Robin Lehner will do that to you), over the last 6 games he has been a solid contributor in almost every category posting 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists), a +2 rating, 10 SOGs, 2 PPPs, 4 PIMs, 4 Blocks, and a hardy 21 Hits. Nice to see the big man using the frame with which he is blessed.
Availability: Owned in 7% of leagues.
Forecast: After a fierce FAAB bidding war, I landed Antropov in the FHS UDL. As an owner I have to be honest and say that I don't expect this kind of production to continue. I've seen too many disappearing acts from this Russian. It's to the point where I feel that the "enigmatic" tag is fair. On the plus side, however, the Jets are doing well -- currently in 1st place in the SouthLeast. That could keep him motivated.
Variously owned Ds worth adding (depending on the size of your league) or worth targeting via trade: Jake Muzzin 85%, Nick Leddy 56%, Zack Bogosian 51%, Brent Burns 44% (run, do not walk), Patrick Wiercioch 6% (featured last week), Jakub Kindl 1%, Steven Oleksy 0.9% (for peripherals), Matt Irwin 0.7%.
Phillips appeared in this space last week when his ownership was a mere 1%. Since that time, in 4 games, he's registered 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists), a +3 rating, 5 SOGs, 2 PIMs, 9 Hits, and 7 Blocks. That's good value for a player that was universally available. You're welcome.
Availability: Owned in 36% of leagues.
Forecast: He's getting more time on the PP with Karlsson on IR, and he's cashing in. Just keep expectations reasonable. This is his 15th season in the NHL and his career high is 26 points -- way back in 2006-07.
Variously owned Gs worth adding (depending on the size of your league) or worth targeting via trade: Sergei Bobrovsky 88% (featured here last week), Jake Allen 48%, Tomas Vokoun 20% (he's won 4 in a row), Jonathan Bernier 16%, Anton Khudobin 5% (5-2-0, 2.30 and .920 -- yeah, really).
Recommended in this space last week and ranked #1 goaltending prospect on the planet here, Lehner's success should not be at all surprising to regular FHS readers. Since being called up to help out while Craig Anderson is on the mend, he's posted sparkling ratios: 1.90 and .946. Now, the wins are starting to come, too.
Availability: Owned in 21% of leagues.
Forecast: Look for Bishop to get traded. Or perhaps even Andy. Yes, Lehner is THAT good.
Now check your wire, good luck, and enjoy the games!
* Availability data from ESPN leagues. [Availability in Y! leagues is almost always higher].
* Player analyses and recommendations will now reflect the growing popularity of broader based scoring systems, so we'll be evaluating free agents and trade targets on the following categories: Goals, Assists, Shots on Goal, Special Teams Goals, Hits, Blocks, PIMs and DEF points (for skaters -- for goalies it will still be Wins, GAA, and Save%). Also, like last season, "Free Agents and Trade Targets" will post here every Sunday evening.
