Holy Jesus... Justin Abdelkader must have took it to heart when loyal reader MoP called me out for saying "keep an eye on this guy" the other day. Six days after his two goal game in Vancouver, Afrogator had 3+1=4, plus-4 & four shots last night. I'd say he's in the proverbial "zone" at the moment. His liney's Franzen & Datsyuk both had three points.
Interesting night in Anaheim as the Ducks were stomped and that led to Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan & Kyle Palmieri all chucking knuckles last night. Brendan Smith was one of the combatants for the Wings.
The Caps are heating up in the 'peg as they beat the Jets by a combined 10-1 score on back-to-back nights. Braden Holtby stopped 50 of 51 in the two wins and is 6-3-0, 1.88 & .941 in the month of March.
Alex Ovechkin had a pair last night and has goals in four straight (5+2=7). Don't look now but dude is starting to shoot the puck more with 30 over his last six games.
Troy Brouwer scored in both games in Winnipeg and has 3+6=9 over his last 10. He's having a career year that won't be a career year due to the shortened season... stupid lockout.
Marcus Johansson dropped a deuce in Winnipeg, twice... that gives him 3+4=7 & plus-5 over his last five games.
Last mention of the Caps, I promise... Brooks Laich with the line of the night (for someone not named Abdelkader) with a goal, plus-3, four PIMs, three shots & 9/13 on the draw.
It shouldn't surprise me any longer but I keep finding myself saying, "when will it end for this guy?" when I see Pascal Dupuis on the scoresheet these days. Another 1+1=2 last night and that gives him 8+3=11, plus-12 & 40 shots over his last nine games. And exactly zero of those points have come on the PP.
Tomas Vokoun has won five straight after stopping 33 of 35 last night. He has given up a total of four goals after his last four wins... but take note that two of those were over the Islanders so their value is dubious.
Other than Sergei Bobrovsky it seems to be a different guy every night stepping up for the Jackets during their hot streak... last night it was Nick Foligno with two goals despite coming in with just one goal in his previous 16 games. Bobrovsky stopped 24 of 25 for the win and is an incredible 8-0-2, 0.98 & .967 in his last 10 games. That's value for a guy that you likely could have had for free a month ago.
Slightly less hot than Bob right now is Miikka Kiprusoff as he gave up another fiver last night and is 2-4-0, 4.34 & .839 over his last six games... yikes. If you have an alternative, then you might want to give Kipper a breather.
