Coach Q promoted Michael Frolik to the top line with Toews & Saad and the chemistry experiment exploded... Frolik had the and1 with 2+1=3. I wouldn't get too excited about this as those were his first goals since game #1 (27 games without) and he'll be brushed aside when Hossa returns.
Speaking of Brandon Saad, an assist last night gives him 1+10=11 in his last nine games. He's up to 4th in rookie scoring and may be the late charging horse in the Calder race.
Corey Crawford is showing some chinks in his armor lately as he gave up five goals in the loss to LA last night and is 4-4-0, 2.89 & .891 in eight games in March.
Tyler Toffoli with a goal last night in just 10 minutes of ice, he has goals in two of his last three.
Martin Erat is the hot Nashvillian these days as he had 2A last night and has 1+6=7 over his last three games.
PPG last night for Jaromir Jagr and he has scored in four straight games (4+3=7). With nine goals in his last 12 games, Yammy's in good bargaining position and apparently the 41-year-old is discussing a possible extension with Dallas.
What else can I say about Matt Cullen that I haven't already said in one of my other daily updates about my latest hero?... two more points last night and he now has 2+7=9 & plus-8 in the eight games since I traded for him.
Nice evening for Jared Spurgeon with 2A, plus-5(!), three hits & three blocks. He has quietly come on after a slow start with 4+6=10 & plus-9 over his last 13 games... dude is underrated.
Joffrey Lupul has a goal in each of the three games since returning from his arm injury after a PPG last night. That goal was set up by Jake Gardiner, who has assists in two of his last three while playing 21 minutes (2:58 on PP) last night.
Nothing earth-shattering but Jakub Kindl has a solid 3+7=10 & plus-14 over his last 19 games.
Viktor Fasth gave up four goals on 38 shots last night and has now allowed 3+ goals in five of his last seven games. Anyone who looks into the crystal ball that is PDO knows that the Ducks are due for a correction and this may be the start of it as they've been outscored 12-5 in three straight losses.
Tampa made a wise move and hired Jon Cooper as their next head coach. This guy is a rock star in the coaching world having won a championship in the USHL in 2010, led Norfolk to the Calder Cup last year and he has Syracuse sitting in 1st overall this season. I'm in love with this guy as a coach as his team's score (led AHL in goals last year & this year), defend (3rd in goals allowed last year), mix it up (3rd & 1st in AHL in PIMs the last two year) and he develops players (look at what he's done with the unheralded Conacher, T.Johnson, Killorn, etc.). Great hire for Tampa and I'm expecting great things.
A few notes while I was noodling around the AHL site... Ducks prospect Sami Vatanen has 3+19=22 over his last 23 games and don't look now but the Preds have another goalie rising as Magnus Hellberg is 10-5-0, 1.67 &.937 in 16 games since January 1st.
Demoted: Ryan Ellis.
