Fantasy Hockey News for Sunday

Greg Fiume

A fantasized look at Saturday night's NHL action.

Alex Ovechkin moved into the league lead in goals with his 27th last night. He has 26 points in his last 17 games.

Okay so I'm still dealing with the fact that Steve Mason might not be fantasy poison any more. Last night he allowed just one goal on 21 shots but still picked up the loss (nice work O). He had a sv% above .900 in only 6 out of 13 games with the Jackets but so far he's 3-for-3 with the Flyers. Baby steps, but it's progress.

Jhonas Enroth picked up the 29 save shutout last night. I bet the Sabres would do just as well if they played Enroth over Miller in all categories except for "Real American Heroes".

Congrats to Jiri Tlusty for scoring his 18th and 19th goals last night. I'm kinda reeling from the fact this guy is scoring at a 58 point pace... just give me a second to compose myself.

Okay, I'm back.

So maybe Brenden Morrow isn't washed up after all as he had 2+1=3 last night. That's five in his last three.

Alex Chiasson scored another. That's six goals in six NHL games. If he keeps this pace up and can play as long as Alex Daigle he'll score 616 NHL goals.

I'm not a big Vernon Fiddler fan (although the same is not true for FIDLAR) so I'm not liking the odds he'll be able to keep up his recent streak of 10 points in his last six games. He had six points in the first 29 games.

So since Jean-Sebastien Giguere had his little rant the Avs have beat the Ducks, lost in OT to the Kings, and beat the 'Nucks last night. He probably should have done that a few weeks ago.

P.A. Parenteau now has 40 points in 42 games. Can you imagine him scoring 78 points over a full season? I can't, but this guy keeps proving me wrong so I picked him up in a few leagues this year. He's one of the most unappreciated fantasy assets out there as he can also bring upwards of 100 hits and 50 PIM's in a full season.

Henrik Lundqvist picked up his first shutout of the season... a sentence King Henrik owners were expecting to see much earlier this year.

Sergei Bobrovsky had another great start, stopping 39 of 41 for the OT win... blah, blah blah. This guy is money.

Sven Baertschi had 1+1=2 for his first multi-point game of the season. He's been playing a lot more lately (around 17-18 minutes a night) so maybe this is the start of a good run?

Matt Martin had four block shots and eight(!) hits last night. He is on a full season pace of 414 hits which would smash his own record of 374.

Carey Price was pretty crappy last night. Try three goals on four shots. Gross.
