Fantasy Hockey News for Trade Deadline Day

A fantasized look at Tuesday night's NHL action.

It felt like 2008-2009 again for the Capitals yesterday when Mike Green scored two goals. Including his first PPG of the season. He now has goals in three straight and maybe he'll get to eight straight again. Or not.

Nicklas Backstrom turned it up last night as he put up 4 assists, 2 PIM, 2 blocks, and plus-3. He's got 3+10=13 with 5 PPP over his last 9 games.

Alex Ovechkin has been scoring at will and he's an easy choice for fantasy line of the night with 2+1=3, 6 shots, 3 hits, 2 PIM, and plus-2. His points streak is up to 9 games and he's scored goals in 8 of those to the tune of 10+5=15, 7 PPP, and 51 shots. I almost got a frustrated owner to trade him to me for Henrik Sedin early on in the season. Sigh.

Your nightly hat trick went to Jiri Tlusty as he converted on all 3 shots he took with two of them coming on the powerplay. He's had just 1 goal to show for his last 8 games but his points have come in bunches this season so do yourself a favor and pick him up for the stretch run.

The line of Brad Boyes, John Tavares, and Matt Moulson had two points each last night for a total of 2+4=6. Tavares has points in 7 of his last 8 games as he looks to move up in the point scoring race.

Second straight two point game for David Krejci as he put up a goal and an assist to put him at an even 30 points on the season. Would it kill him to give us some more powerplay production, though?

Anton Khudobin got a second straight start for the Bruins following his shutout on Sunday and he came up big again. He made a whopping 45 saves enroute to the win. I assume they still have to go back to Tuukka Rask tomorrow night.

Jacob Markstrom won his third straight game last night making 39 of 41 stops. His season peripherals are a tidy .922 sv% and 2.57 gaa.

Jarome Iginla scored his first goal as a Penguin last night but it wasn't enough as they were shocked on their home ice by a Vanek-less Buffalo to end their 15 game winning streak.

The hero for the Sabres was Kevin Porter as he scored his first two goals on the season including one shorthanded. Jason Pominville also broke a five game pointless streak with two assists.

David Legwand put up a goal and an assists for the third time in his last four games last night. He has 4+3=7 including two game winning goals in his last 6 games.

Keith Yandle's price tag went up a bit last night as he scored twice. He has 3+2=5 over his last 5 games as he tries to push his way out of the desert. Kidding.

There were plenty of trades yesterday as most of you know already. I'm just going to touch on the immediately fantasy relevant ones. The Canucks finally got the center they were coveting in Derek Roy for a 2nd round pick and Kevin Connauton. I'm not sure that this does anything for Roy's value. The team is better but he's likely going to be a 2nd line player getting 2nd line PP minutes. He gets a big boost if he somehow finds his way onto the first PP unit.

The Hurricanes obtained Marc-Andre Bergeron in exchange for Adam Hall and a 7th rounder. The Canes sorely lack a guy to run their PP from the point and MAB actually has that ability. As a matter of fact, that's the only ability he has. Keep an eye on him for now to see how they use him.

The Stars continued their outright fire sale trading Jaromir Jagr to the Bruins in exchange for Cody Payne, Lane MacDermid, and a pick. I think his value takes a small hit here as I'm not sure that he can crack Boston's top 6, but he figures to get some decent PP time being that he brings 9 PPP on the season with him.

The Rangers acquired Ryane Clowe for a 2013 2nd round, 2013 3rd round pick, and a conditional (either 2nd or 5th) 2014 pick. This trade is a win for Clowe as he fell out of favor in San Jose. His toughness & grit combined with a little bit of skill is perfect for Broadway and his value gets a big boost here.

Up to the Show: Jake Allen, Adam Cracknell, Chris Mueller, Greg Rallo, Adam Pardy

Down to Below: Jimmy Hayes, Jeremy Morin, Phillippe Paradis, Jordan Schroeder, Dane Byers, Dmitry Orlov, Tomas Kundratek
