Playoff Open Thread (Round One)

Yeah, it's halfway through the first round, and nothing really of note has happened so far (aside from, well... EVERY FRICKEN GAME!), but that shouldn't prevent some idle banter about our teams - real or otherwise. So, stop in for a bit and bitch or rave about the various going ons around the league. Just trying perk this place up a little bit, 'cause that's what loyal readers do...

(really? that wasn't 75 words? how you like me now fan post publisher?)

Playoff Draft Results

In a basic pool with a couple friends, what do you think of my team? (G = 1, A =.5, GWG =1 // W = 2, L = -1, SO = 3)

H. Sedin

M. Gaborik

P. Datsyuk

B. Marchand

A. Radulov

A. Burrows

K. Letang

N. Kronwall

D. Seidenberg

K. Quincey

R. Luongo

Thinking I should do alright.....I tried to stay with a couple teams I think will do well, always a ton of luck in the playoffs though. Since my team isn't (and won't be for a while) in the playoffs (Flames......Fail) always good to add a little excitement/incentive to the playoffs.

Goalie help.....playoffs

Which goalie would you take for the playoffs. keeper league using 9 forwards and 1 goalie for the playoff pool. pts only with goalies getting 2 win & 2 for shutout. Niemi/ Crawford/ Bryzgalov are my options........................my forwards/def are:

Kronwall.....Staal.....Timonen......C. Smith......Malkin......Keith......Spezza.......Krejci......Alfredsson.....Vorachek.....Fisher

drop any 2 from the forward and def....... offence gets actual point total for the playoffs................................... ................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................

In other pool i was in, points only as well, i finished 2nd, 7 pts off the lead with my son 3rd place money using your guide. 15 managers were in this league @ $50 a head. Me and my son were battling top spot all year, then this other manager basically caught us and took over the lead with a strong season from Karlsson, among others. My 2nd overall pick, Backstrom, was hurtful when he was injured for 2nd half. As was M Koivo for my sons team, 3rd pick for him.

I also bought DH guide, never used it, but read it.

Thanx for the winning season boys, and keep up the good work. Will be back next season.

MrSandman weekly rant....

Hi Guys !

2 things...

First Clowe... what a cheater.... can't believe the league is missing this. I remember an event, I think it was in the NFL, where a guy on the sideline from the defending team interfere with the play and a touchdown was automatically awarded. In my opinion, Clowe should be suspended for a minimum of 5 games. A phoque in Alaska non-sense.... cant believe the inaction by the NHL.

Milbury, I guess every show needs its clown.... I know, I know, he has never been recognized for its extraordinary judgement but still, do we really need to hear his opinion on TV.... I read recently that he was accused of assaulting a 12 year old boy.

link : http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/17/sports/hockey/nhl-hockey-roundup.html?_r=1

The charges were dropped for lack of evidence but still..... It says it all... therefore, his latest comments on Crosby and the he incitated the Flyers to "hit him, screw him" deserve nothing more than to be fired in my opinion.

Need to plan keepers for next year

Hey all,

Well my pool is wrapped up and I ended in a disappointing 6th (of 12). I had some late season injuries that didn't go to the IR that hurt me (Toews and Hall). Well, this year it looks like our league is allowing off season trades, which means I can try to move some of my star players that I can't keep (we only have 6 keepers) in hopes of getting draft picks. It is a standard yahoo league with standards categories (G, A, PIM, PPP, SHG, SOG and GWG for skaters and W, Saves, GAA and SO for goalies).

I have:

**Patrick Kane

**Jonathan Toews

**Taylor Hall

**Evander Kane

**Phil Kessel

*Milan Michalek

*Logan Couture

*Zdeno Chara

Andy McDonald

Pascal Dupuis

Dan Boyle

Tobias Enstrom

David Krejci

**Carey Price

Brian Elliott

Kari Lehtonen

What I have in ** are my planned keepers (and single * are potential keepers I just don't have room for), but I was looking for advince. Perhaps it makes sense to keep Couture over E.Kane. Or maybe Michalek over Kessel? Should I sacrifice a young forward to grab an aging defensemen like Chara?

Thanks guys.

Need goalie help to win league

I have been playing both STL goalies all along but just recently picked up Fleury to get more games in. we have a 100 game max and set weekly lineups. If I get 3 more wins I will pick up 2 more points. I currently sit 0.5 pts be behind 1st place. I just picked up lundqvist as well. What 2 goalies should I play? The problem with STL now is I don' t know who will start width halak just losing 2 straight. I need to be careful with Sav % though as I am just fractionally ahead of the guy in 1st. Thoughts?

Down to the wire

Final 3 days of the playoffs coming up. I'm dropping McGinn today as he has the weekend off. Since I'm obviously looking at players who play both Saturday and Sunday, my options are limited to Anaheim, Boston, Chicago, Minnesota, Ottawa, and Philadelphia players. Since I had to use one of my five weekly moves to replace Letang this week, I'm down to 4 moves remaining. My current Sunday roster has space for 1 F, 2 Util, and 3 D, so at least one player I pick up today and tomorrow will have to be a d-man.

The current matchup stats (my score/his score)are as follows:

G: 6/4 A:15/13 +-: -5/-6 PIM: 14/8 PPP: 5/4 GWG: 1/1 SOG: 64/66 W: 2/3 GAA: 2.28/2.16 SV%: .913/.926 SO: 2/0

In other words, the most ridiculously close across the board matchup I've come across this season.

I outnumber him 8 skaters to 6 on Friday (+Quick vs Dubnyk), currently even 10-10 on Saturday (+Elliott or Halak (and Quick?) vs Brodeur and Niemi), and am currently down 8 skaters to 9 on Sunday (with Fleury vs Dubnyk).

He has also used one of his five moves to replace Vokoun with Read, and I have to assume that while my drops tomorrow could likely go unrivaled, any moves I make on Saturday will be matched if they aren't already made before.

With all that being said, which stat categories/players should be my main focus? If Hitch decides to announce his Saturday starter tomorrow, I'll be able to drop a St. Louis goaltender and get an extra game in.

I won't give a full list of who's available because there seem to be too many variables, but think along the lines of low-end 2nd/higher-end 3rd line forwards, defensive defensemen, and the Minnesota Wild (I already have Koivu).

The Boston tap has pretty much run dry. A few backup tenders like Lehner could get a start. Could maybe find some philly value in Carle or Schenn? Should I target a PIM stat-pad like Rinaldo vs. the Pens? Any help; suggestions, tips, warnings, breast-related mind-calming distractions are all greatly appreciated.

Sorry to all for the somewhat messy stream of consciousness writing style, and thanks again for your help.

Fantasy Hockey Hypotheticals

Hey Everyone,

Each year various situations are presented to a given manager where there is no clear cut decision to be. Or, as discovered in various other FanPosts, different managers handle the same situation very differnetly. In this theme I present a hypothetical situation that I've observed and been a part of at various times over the years in the hopes of discovering different ways you guys would handle the situation and maybe get some debate going on.

Situation: Single year league, points only, with extra point for PPP and a cap on games at each roster position. Roster is 8F 5D. Two full weeks left but you only have 11 forward games remaining. On the flip side your projected to be well under the cap for Dmen. Your in first with the guy in second gaining on you, say 8 points back. The guy in second has more than enough games left for his forwards plus a pick up or two (likely any guys you drop) and in no way will go over the cap in games.

Question: Do you drop some forwards to pick up some extra Dmen, hang on for dear life and hope his entire team gets injured or goes cold, play just your key forwards, play the forwards who are hot, what? I know its tough without actual rosters but still thought I'd throw it out there. My buddies and I debated this for a bit so was hoping to get a different "philosophy"

Cheers
