Fantasy Fortnight: Who's Hot? Versteeg, Eberle, Byfuglien, RNH, Giguere

Today in sentences we thought we'd never type: "Kris Versteeg is the hottest player this past fortnight."

Our Fantasy Fortnight posts take a look at who has been hot (we'll do them today) and who has been cold (later this week) over the last two weeks.  The time frame of two weeks is ideal as you get a large enough sample size but you also get a flavour for who is on the recent hot/cold spells.

Statistics are for games up to and including Tuesday November 22nd, 2011.

HOT FORWARDS

Stephen Weiss - 6 gms with 3+7=10, Kris Versteeg - 6 gms with 6+6=12 and Tomas Fleischmann - 6 gms with 4+4=8
We'll combine these three since they form the super hot first line on the Panthers.  They combined for just 115 points last year but have 66 already this year.  Wow.  Did not see this coming. I somehow ended up with Weiss and Versteeg in one league and while it may not last I sure wish I had Flash as well.

Tyler Bozak - 7 gms with 4+5=9
He started the season slowly but has really been picked up steam lately.  I'm no Bozak fan and his recent streak won't continue but he's a lock to improve on his paltry 32 points from last year.

Jordan Eberle - 7 gms with 4+6=10
While Hall and RNH get all the hype Eberle (relatively) quietly puts up the points.  He has 21 points in 21 games and I bet he would be cheaper than his linemates in a deal... even thoiugh he could end up out producing them both.

Brad Marchand - 6 gms with 4+4=8
We all know about his post season exploits but did you know he's actually out-producing that pace so far this year?  (.76 vs. .79 ppg).  His shots are up and he's going to help your team in plus-minus and PIM's as well.

Pascal Dupuis - 6 gms with 1+6=7
Crosby's back and it looks like Dupuis is on his line (three assists in Sid's return).  Don't get too excited though.  He's been Sid's linemate in the past and it either didn't last or he didn't produce like you'd want. Other than a 48 point season a 100 years ago with Minny he's never topped 38 points in his career.  He's on pace for 65 points right now... I'll be floored if he tops 50.

Fantasy Fortnight: Who's Cold? Staal, Stafford, Johnson, Hamonic, Miller...

Dear Eric,
Start scoring.
Sincerely,
Your fantasy owners

Today we'll take a look at some cold players from the last two weeks (that's a fortnight) and see if their streaks are legit.

We looked at who was on fire a few days ago in our Who's Hot post.  Check it out here.

Statistics are up to and including games played on Sunday November 6th, 2011.

FORWARDS

Eric Staal - 6 gms with 0+1=1 and a -6
If you own Staal we don't need to tell you about his struggles.  If you don't, you've probably heard the guy who does complaining that his first round pick is playing like he belongs on the Blue Jackets.  He has only two points in his last ten games and is on pace for a whopping minus-94.  Ouch.

Ville Leino - 6 gms with 0+1=1 and a -2
A switch to the top scoring line didn't get Leino going.  It's amazing he went from a potential 60 point guy to somebody you should think about cutting bait on.  This is going to be a contract the Sabres regret for a long time.

Patrik Berglund - 5 gms with 1+0=1 and a -3
Going back further he has just two points in ten games.  52 points last year as a 22-year-old gave us big hope that Berglund would be taking the next step this season.  Maybe Hitchcock gets him going?  He's too talented for this to continue.

Milan Hejduk - 6 gms with 1+0=1 and a -1
Five points in his first six game then only two in the eight games since.

Drew Stafford - 6 gms with 1+0=1 and a -2
Like Hejduk he started strong (five points in first five games) but has been killing fantasy teams since (one point in eight games).

Other cold forwards...
Derick Brassard - 6 gms with 0+0=0 and a -8
Dustin Penner - 6 gms with 0+0=0 and a -4
Steve Downie - 6 gms with 0+1=1 and a -6
Josh Bailey - 5 gms with 0+1=1 and a -2
Matt Moulson - 5 gms with 0+1=1 and a -3
Jiri Hudler - 5 gms with 0+0=0 and a 0
Alexander Semin - 5 gms with 0+1=1 and a -3
Tyler Bozak - 6 gms with 0+1=1 and a -1
Michael Grabner - 5 gms with 1+0=1 and a -2
Magnus Paajarvi - 6 gms with 0+1=1 and a 1
Simon Gagne - 4 gms with 1+0=1 and a -1
Dave Bolland - 7 gms with 1+0=1 and a -3
Valtteri Filppula - 6 gms with 0+1=1 and a 3

Fantasy Fortnight: Who's Hot? Pavelski, Antropov, Edler, Smith, Fleury...

Jumbo Joe and Little Joe... we might need to switch nicknames.

Now that the season into full swing so now we can start looking for some recent hot and cold streaks.  Today we'll take a look at some hot players from the last two weeks (that's a fortnight) and see if their streaks are legit.

Tomorrow we'll look at the cup as half empty and give you a run down on who is cold.

Statistics are for games up to Tuesday March 1st, 2011.

FORWARDS

Joe Pavelski - 6 gms with 6+5=11
He's the hottest guy in the league right now and you definitely get the feeling Little Joe will be doing big things this year.  He always seems to miss around 10 games per season, so health could play a factor this season.

Tomas Fleischmann - 6 gms with 4+3=7
Yes he does have some injury concerns but he's playing on the first line & PP and looks healthy.  He showed some flashes of brilliance last year with the Avs so maybe he's better than we think (he now has 31 points in his last 33 games played).  Considering he's a FA in a lot of leagues he's definitely worth a flyer.

Jordan Eberle - 6 gms with 3+4=7
With Hall and RNH around Eberle sometimes gets forgotten.  He's at least on par with his talented linemates and it wouldn't suprise me to see him lead the trifecta in scoring this season.  He's currently on pace for 74 points.

Nik Antropov - 7 gms with 2+6=8
He's been getting a lot of hype around here lately.  I didn't think that would be happening at the beginning of the year.  He's got some good linemates and some nice PP time.  He had 67 points two years ago so he's shown he can do this over the long haul before.

Chris Neil - 7 gms with 2+3=5
Normally it's just PIM's with Neil but lately he's putting points on the board too.  Of the 100 or so guys with a better ppg over the last two weeks nobody has more than 10 PIM's.... Neil has 18.  He's now on pace for 43 points and 329 PIM's.  Do I think it will continue?  No.... but he's playing on L2 (granted a pretty crappy L2) and even getting some PP TOI so you never know.

Follow the jump for hot defensemen, rookies and goalies...
