Trade Analysis: Mike Cammalleri - Rene Bourque Deal
"We prepare for our games like losers. We play like losers. So it's no wonder why we lose." This Mike Cammalleri quote was the obvious reason for the quick deal. The way this deal came about was odd to say the least. He was pulled out of Thursday night's Canadiens game with the Bruins at TD Garden. He was told that he was traded, but not told where. If you were keeping track of Twitter at this point, you probably saw the rumors/guesses about all the teams it could possibly be. I saw the Kings, the Blue Jackets, the Sabres, the Flames, and a host of other teams. It turns out he was traded to Calgary for the following deal:
To the Flames: Mike Cammalleri, Karri Ramo, 5th Round Pick in 2012
To the Canadiens: Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland, 2nd round Pick in 2013
Lets take a look at this deal for fantasy purposes in more detail after the jump.
Trade Analysis - Habs and Canes Swap Defencemen
The Montreal Canadiens have acquired Tomas Kaberle from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Jaroslav Spacek.
Kaberle was signed as a free agent this summer to a three-year contract worth $12.75 million (cap hit: $4.25 million per year). Carolina GM Jim Rutherford regretted that move, especially as the Canes are a budget team. Spacek's salary is not a whole lot less ($3,833,333), but at least he's a free agent at the end of this season.
The Hurricanes get: 1) Cap relief plus the ability to undo what they believe was a mistake in giving Kaberle such a lucrative contract, and 2) a physical, two-way defenceman who provides cap/contract flexibility this summer.
The Canadiens get: 1) A proven PP QB, albeit one who has struggled since leaving Toronto, and 2) a somewhat expensive contract.
My take on how this will impact specific players below...
Up for Debate: Blake Comeau Trade
I made an interesting trade today that I have been in negotiation with another "GM" over the weekend and I figured I would put it up for debate here at FHS. Here's the deal:
To me: Blake Comeau and Gilbert Brule
To him: Jake Gardiner, 4th round 2012 pick
As of right now, I have lost this deal, but I am thinking long term for multiple reasons. Those reasons are after the jump if you're still interested.
