Dan Paille resigned with Buffalo, Danny did well last year putting up 19 goals but I wouldn't expect too big of an increase from that. He got decent ice-time last year but he wasn't playing with the top players or getting PP time and his history doesn't lead us to believe that he'll develop into a big-time scorer.
If you want a breakthrough player for next season then look no further than Nigel Dawes. He resigned with NYR for one year. This guy just flat out scores goals and he should get top 6 minutes as he appears to be in Renney's good books. We're betting heavily on this guy for next season, so much so that even Pete Rose would be jealous.
Another good looking prospect, Jeff Tambellini of the NYI, resigned yesterday. The best part is that he got a one-way deal which means that he'll be with the big club for sure next year. We also like this guy to make a breakthrough next year as he should get a good opportunity on a weak Isles club.
Sean Bergenheim, also of the NYI, resigned yesterday as well. Time is running out for him to prove that he's going to be a offensive threat in the NHL.
LA has resigned goalie Erik Ersberg. The rookie came on strong at the end of last season and if given the opportunity could outplay Jason Labarbera for the #1 job next year. This, of course, is assuming that Bernier isn't given the #1 job and that LA doesn't make a trade for a tender.
Atlanta resigned RFA goalie Kari Lehtonen. This was not unexpected but combined with the resigning of Johan Hedberg probably means that, barring a trade, that 20 year old prospect Ondrej Pavelec will be stuck in the minors again. All he did last year was play well in a call-up to Atlanta and then go back to the A and lead Chicago to the Calder Cup championship.
Toronto is giving away all the tickets to one of their exhibition games this pre-season. Now some might say that free is about the right price to pay for having to watch this squad this season.
Distraction of the Day
What's distracting us today... we were shocked&awed to find out that Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood is entering rehab... apparently good old Ronnie likes to hit the sauce... really? you can't be serious? Next thing you're going to tell me is that OJ really did kill his wife?
