Washington's Nicklas Backstrom sprained his ankle in a workout a few days ago. He may miss some action at the beginning of training camp but it doesn't appear to be too serious and we wouldn't be too concerned yet, unless there's a further update in the next few days that its more serious than originally thought.
As we talked about yesterday, Nikita Filatov has a hairline fracture in his fibula, according to several sources, but the team thinks he'll still only be out of action for 10-14 days. Stupid move by the kid as he probably got hurt playing in some exhibition games in Russia.
Ottawa GM Bryan Murray says that his team still needs a PP QB, saying they don't have... "That guy with the puck skills and the ability to run a power play consistently. I think we've got people that can do it, but can they do it consistently? Maybe, we will find (the player) in camp." So lower your expectations of Filip Kuba, Alexandre Picard and Brian Lee seeing big minutes on the PP as it looks like Murray doesn't have a lot of faith and is still in the market for some help.
We're working hard on our projected 2008/09 stats and rankings and fantasy hockey draft cheatsheet which should be posted to the site later today for free download... and if you're interested in a lot more meat behind some of those rankings then you should grab a copy of our Breakout Bible 2008 for only $5.
Distraction of the Day
What's distracting us today... Lots of various rookie tournaments going on right now and you can catch some of the action on either the NHL network or on some of the team's websites.
